Tillerson Out

Little Rocket Man is making good progress on his nuke plans but he does not exactly have a fine-tuning knob on some of those rockets. Wait until he sends one that he thinks is going to land off Japan and instead it lands in Simi Valley. That will be an attention-getter for sure.

You know what they say: "A conservative is a liberal who was mugged the night before."

I have a similiar concern but not that it will hit Simi valley. Its more likely that the thing is actually going to hit Japan. To be honest, I am amazed that Japan is actually tolerating NK violating their airspace.

As Obama famously retorted to Romney "the 1980's called and want their foreign policy back." Or something like that.

NATO was important in the 1950's and had some relevance maybe through the '80's. Now it is an excuse for military brass and assorted hangers-on to live the high life in Europe and to piss away huge amounts of money on defense contractors.

Why should we be spending vast sums to protect Europe from a soviet invasion when the soviet union no longer exists and Europe is feverishly trying to destroy itself through unchecked immigration? Let Europe worry about itself and bring our troops home and put them on the southern border until an adequate wall is constructed.

NATO does a lot more than protect Europe. Our defenses in Europe aren’t mandatory under through NATO, or at least by and large. We put things like middle defense in Poland for our own global security.

NATO was very helpful to us after 9/11. It was the only time article 5 was invoked and it was in our defense.

So what are you saying.........that the preservation of south korea was originally good but when Trump is in power....the hell with them...it must be bad?

Okay. got it.

Note further, that the collapse of the soviet union was since the 1960's and required massed military power on our part even if "unused". Although I realize that your ilk may still be wistful for those days. Not to worry. Bernie is there for you.
Did I mention, ever sin ce the 1960s the record is not good.

In regard to the Soviet Union collapse :
There are many policy experts, mostly non-politicians, that would disagree in varying degrees with your statement, some strongly, some less so. The chief expert, Daniel Patrick Mohnihan, unfortunately died a few years ago. Moynihan was both a Ph.D. sociologist, an expert on the Soviet Union, a member of Ford's cabinet, our Ambassador to the United Nations, a U.S. Senator, a personal confidant of President Kennedy, and had a comprehensive grasp of world affairs. His writing indicates that were he alive today he would strongly disagree with your above assertion. He disagreed so strongly that he left Ford's cabinet (he said he was fired, but of course it was a mutual agreement) over this very issue.

If you're going to vote , you owe it to the rest of us to acquire an education. It is not enough merely to have an opinion.

I see. Disagreeing with Moynihan equates to not having an education. Nice.

You would do well in school today where they tell what the one right way to think is in advance.

And if Mr. Moynihan were alive now he would have the payout for North Korea loaded up and ready to go because it is that time in the cycle again, and the chickens will never come home to roost AS LONG AS HE IS ALIVE. I am going to guess it is not foremost on his mind now.

I don't know. As I said before, I think he has the ballistics and the range but no fine tuning knob to go with it just yet. He may aim for Japan and hit Simi Valley.

Or the irony of ironies would be if he aims for Japan with the truck fully loaded but it lands in China. Oooopie daisy. quite possible too. Take it up with Winnie the Poo there if it happens.

I think you are replying to someone I have blocked but this is a fair question and a tough one.

South Korea is the poster child of decades of US over-reaching. I will assume the original mission there was justified. I see no reason at all we should have stayed for another 65 years, with US troops at risk as a tripwire. South Korea is a rich, industrialized country that routinely takes advantage of us in trade matters. They are perfectly capable of providing for their own defense. They want it both ways though. They don't want to do anything that might disrupt their cozy lives, but they are ok with exposing us to a nuclear attack.

I am having trouble seeing the MAGA in that.

There are not two sides to this issue, there are quite a few more than two.

There are those who want to maintain south korea as colony held up buy the United States, and there are those who want to just pull the plug and let them become a united colony under china, and then there are those who are willing to side with south korea if they want to bear the primary burden but need more support. As with all lib programs, we promote learned dependence at home and abroad. The age-old hand-out versus hand-up dilemma.

In addition, the same thing goes on in our relationship with the UN. Let us not forget that the Korean War was originally a UN action not just an American action. But as with every other UN activity, eventually all the other countries pull out and we continue to fund them to criticize us.

My view on this changes with some of the facts on the ground. Six months ago, I was willing to pull the plug on them outright. The South Koreans elected a lib government and the new prime minister touted how he had relatives with North Korea so his approach was going to be kumbaya. Then he announced that the Americans could not put THAD missiles in South Korea and that he wanted American joint training exercises to be curtailed and gave the finger to the Americans. WTF? Then, after rocket man starts acting up, he suddenly starts begging the Americans for the THAAD missiles to be installed and for joint exercises. WTF ON STEROIDS. They have been at this for 65 years and are still thinking about the basics.

So, I am not in the camp of supporting them as in the past nor am I in the camp of dumping them outright. It is a little bit MAGA in the sense that it is somewhat like trumps policy toward NATO They are on probation in my mind. I would have dumped them outright six months ago. Flat out tell them - "you are on your own." So, like NATO I willing go forward with them as long as everyone understands they are on probation and all alliances are being reviewed. And if that is not MAGA, that is fine too. I am not a lib getting signals from the Mothership.

  • I do think that much of the focus on tidying up foreign policy and military policy should be focused on Japan. If we are not going to restrain North Korea either because we cant or we no longer have that as a goal, then we should let Japan out from under the treaties limiting their military offensive capabilities. They should have the right to protect themselves, including going on the offense. Because the Koreans, the Chinese, and the Japanese have- let's just call it historical baggage" that is the last thing they want. Good. Quit dicking around in korea then.

So, I have a view that is quite well formed but surprisingly fluid the minute I see any more bad behavior whatsoever from either North or South Korea or China. Helping hand but no learned dependence.

Speaking of Nato. Back in the Libya war, the Brits wanted to take Libya to protect the oil contracts between BP and the Libyan government. So they went to Obama and said that they alone did not have the air power to take Libya. JESUS H. See what I am sayin about learned dependence. The British and the French together did not have the air power to take out the Libyan military sites.
They are as worthless as tits on a nun. It was an illegal war anyway but compounded by the fact that they suckered the US President into doing their dirty work for them because they could not get it up themselves.

Alright enough of that.
