Why Paris is burning

Quote from tradenut:

Weak? In what way may I ask.

How about 10,000 people dying in a heatwave?

11 days of riots.

Haven't created a job since sometime in the mid 70's.

I speak of France and Germany.

Quote from roberk:

""In the current issue of City Journal, Theodore Dalrymple concludes a piece on British suicide bombers with this grim summation of the new Europe: "The sweet dream of universal cultural compatibility has been replaced by the nightmare of permanent conflict." That sounds a lot like a new Dark Ages.""

What the european gov'ts dont understand is that there is a good portion of the muslim population that DOESN'T want to be apart of their society, they want everyone to convert to their idea.

Therein lies the problem.

Permanent conflict? That's a bit over the top. There have barely been enough incidents to qualify as intermittent.

I like Dalrymple, but he's as susceptible to the occasional howler as anyone else.

Take another read- isn't he contrasting a utopian (that has never happened) dream of the future with the nightmare (that has also not yet happened) of conflict.

On the twelth day of rioting my French youth gave to me,
12 fire-bombed churches
11 schools in ashes
10 cities burning
9 shots a ringing,
8 crisis meetings,
7 dumpsters burning,
6 ransacked buses,
5 scorched Peugoooooots,
4 broken skulls,
3 tear gas bombs,
2 French Fried teens,
And not a word that they might be Muslimsssssss

Quote from TM_Direct:

I disagree strongly...they should not use any force what so ever...I believe they should be talking to the rioters, find out why they are angry and burning buses and people, ...we need to be sympathetic to these people and I think i speak for all of America when I say we are against the use of any force to stop these riots....The UN should be called in to handle this situation, not the French Police

Ha Ha!! You think you speak for all America. Maybe you are the true representative of the people and should do a power grab??

You are more of an idiot than TM_ is!!

Hey Maxipad, can you check "sarcasm!"

Quote from kalashnicac:

Since the beginning of the riots-in fact ever since there has been rioting in these suburbs (which has been one of the unfortunate characteristics of these areas for a long time, let me insist) there has never been any evidence suggesting it is linked primarily to religion. Of course, most rioters are from arab origin and islam is part of their identity, but searching for causes there is simply misleading.
What’s really misleading is avoiding the subject of Islam being part of their identity altogether. This is what the Cultural Relativists, the Multiculturalists, and the preachers of “tolerance” all do: they avoid the sensitive subjects completely. That’s not tolerance; that’s pure intellectual negligence.

Quote from kalashnicac:

This isn't even an opinion, I am merely echoing the politicians (of all mainstream political groups), journalists, policemen, representatives and sometives even relatives of these "youths" causing trouble. The prime minister (conservative BTW) has just announced he is going to implement a series of measures to reduce employment and poverty in these suburbs and fight discrimination. Not once has he mentioned islamism. Islam is a threat to France as to all western countries at the moment, but not 14 to 20 year old idiots setting fire to cars that belong to their neighbours, or buses that are being used by their parents to go to work (!).
Western politicians have been talking about fighting poverty and discrimination for decades. Providing employment is always good, but it’s pointless when you have open borders and runaway ethnocentric immigrant populations. It’s also pointless talking about fighting discrimination against Arabs while ignoring the fact that Arabs also discriminate.

The politicians and the mainstream political groups have been carefully conditioned to keep political Islam out of the discussion completely. Of course the politicians are the last to know. If they were allowed to discuss how Muslim societies tick, they would have taken better care of their immigration policies a very long time ago, so they can integrate the amounts they can handle into French society.

It’s ironic how Western leaders and thinkers are constantly accused of not understanding Muslims, while at the same time they are not allowed to discuss it.

Quote from kalashnicac:

So all of those in this thread who have been moving the debate to islam vs westerners (or palestine vs israel) are simply missing the point and seriously digressing. Arab minorities and their assimilation in western countries is what' we should be talking about. Anyway, never mind.
Palestine vs. Israel is a smoke screen; Islamic cultures vs. Western society is not.

When this is all said and done, the leaders will listen to the same arguments coming from the same people: France is intolerant and fails to integrate Muslims because they banned the headscarf; France has all these white people staffing their government; these poor kids were torching cars because they can’t even find a piece of bread to eat. And so on and so on.; all the stuff that justifies the riots and encourages further ethnocentrism and classism among the rioting youth, who are once again enabled and justified for their bad behavior.
