Total US Debt Rises Over $18 Trillion; Up 70% Under Barack Obama

Number 1 myth about the stimulus:

It worked.

The economy had hit its average high point already in terms of job creation before a single stimulus dollar went out the door, explain that to me, explain how the stimulus created jobs, when the economy had already recovered before the red tape was even figured out.

Obama was the beneficiary of a deep recession right when he started, if he knew what he was doing he should have created 20million+ jobs, instead he piled on 1 regulation after another as liberals celebrated that regulations and taxes, and healthcare bills supposedly dont effect job growth...... Then Obama ended up with the worst recovery since the great depression.

Five myths about Obama’s stimulus

2. The stimulus was full of waste, pork and fraud.

Most of the Recovery Act consisted of straightforward aid to states and to the vulnerable, infrastructure spending, and tax cuts. Critics may call it “porkulus,” but the stimulus was also the first modern spending bill with no official legislative earmarks, the usual definition of “pork.” And after experts warned that 5 to 7 percent of the money could be lost to fraud, investigators documented only $7.2 million in losses through 2011, about 0.001 percent.

Of course, waste is in the eye of the beholder. But it’s telling that most Republican examples of stimulus boondoggles were either removed from the bill (sod on the Mall, smoking cessation), never in the package (mob museums, levitating trains to Disneyland) or wild distortions (The new Department of Homeland Security headquarters is not “government furniture”).

Yes, there was Solyndra, but its $535 million default represented only about 1 percent of the Recovery Act’s clean-energy loan portfolio, and independent reviewers have found that the overall portfolio is in fine shape. And Republican investigators have found no evidence that cronyism drove the Solyndra loan.

Really, republicans hated Obama because he was a good president.

Everyone who is not an idiot knows who sets the purse strings, reality is not on your side on this one Tony, when did spending explode? When Dems took everything, when is the only times in history it has slowed or went down, when republicans had control of both chambers.

For you to make it out like liberals are the ones who are the low spenders and the deficit hawks is just a complete and utter denial of reality, the only places with higher debt/GDP than liberal states, are canadian provinces like Ontario and quebec, and news flash, its all run by liberals. In order for someone to think that liberals are the ones running a tight ship, you need to have a strong deference to reality.

If you were to project this chart out further the deficit only dropped when republicans took control again, it is absolutely fucking ridiculous to make the claim you are making, and it blows my mind that so called educated individuals would even make the argument that the party of big government actually saves us money.

Bush unfunded tax cuts,Bush unfunded medicare drug expansion,Bush unfunded Iraq and Afghanistan wars and Bush unfunded nearly doubling the defense budget are the cause for most of the debt and deficits between 2000 and 2017.There was a Republican President and Republican Speaker of The House when all of that passed.

You think your ever going to get an argument from me that Bush was a big spender? Did Bush write the budgets in 2006-2012? Bush was a donkey for signing off on all of it but does it change who wrote it? Do you think Trump is is in there writing the budget, or is it paul ryan? LOL, its comical to blame the disasters of the democratic supermajority on conservatives.

Trump may not be writing the budget but he has told Ryan that he wants massive tax cuts, the biggest in history.Trump has also to told Ryan he wants massive defense spending increases and massive infrastructure spending. If all that gets passed it will cause massive deficit and debt increases and Republicans will say its The Democrats fault.

Dude, if even one budget ends up going higher than the budgets the dems wrote i will leave ET.

Here is Canadas numbers and the U.S. numbers combined, do you know what the commonality it? All places run by liberals, you are making a stupid disingenous argument like when people argue the dems are the party of the klan, it is impossible to think that big government doesnt carry a cost, unless you are an idiot.

Max,The budgets the dems wrote had to pay for Bushs unfunded tax cuts,Bush unfunded medicare drug expansion,Bush unfunded Iraq and Afghanistan wars and Bushs unfunded nearly doubling the defense budget

The only expensive legislation from the dems are Obamacare, which is mostly paid for and the stimulus which was only 800 billion and doesn't come close to the costs of Bushs wars, tax cuts, medicare expansion and increased defense spending that all passed under a Republican President and a Republican Speaker of The House.

Stimulus cost almost as much as the tax cuts, and not a dime went out the door before the economy was already creating jobs, there is no doubt Bush was the worst of all worlds, and i fear Trump will be the same, Tax Cuts plus increase in spending, but there is no denying that when dems control both houses deficits explode. The reason for this is because as a president they want the best of both worlds, if someone sends them a budget with increased spending and lower taxes, its seen as a plus, best of all worlds, everyone wins. You can argue about the fact that Bush was a liberal pussy, who signed off on it, but you cant argue about where the spending originated. The fact of the matter is that the times in history when the deficits and debt have exploded it has almost unilaterally been when dems control both houses.

You are making a ridiculous argument, but if you want to look at it for your own sake, check out which states have the highest debt/GDP like i showed above it is almost universally democrat run states, your argument doesnt have any merit sorry man.

Im pretty sure under Trump the deficits are set to explode, just as they are under an equally cartoonish figure, Trudeau, in Canada, but as a whole its very easy to get the picture if you want to see who spends, by just looking at it on a state by state/province by province level.

It is also very easy to see when you look at where the debt went up the most, based on who controlled both houses.

Tthe Bush tax cuts cost more than the stimulus. While the stimulus was a one time hit some of the Bush tax cuts are still in place and is still costing money

CBO Scoring
The non-partisan Congressional Budget Office has consistently reported that the Bush tax cuts did not pay for themselves and represented a sizable decline in revenue for the Treasury:

  • The CBO estimated in June 2012 that the Bush tax cuts of 2001 (EGTRRA) and 2003 (JGTRRA) added approximately $1.5 trillion total to the debt over the 2002-2011 decade, excluding interest.[2]

  • The CBO estimated in January 2009 that the Bush tax cuts would add approximately $3.0 trillion to the debt over the 2010-2019 decade if fully extended at all income levels, including interest.[3]
