The home audio thread

Traded a Submariner plus $ for a Breitling Chronomat recently. I agree on the Rolex being something of a "dead horse." Breitling ok? And one I'd LOVE to wear is Audemars Piguet Royal Oak series. Damn! Can't fit the bill for that one, however:(
You like Panerai? Have a 111 on stainless bracelet (H-E-A-V-Y!) I bought several yrs ago, and like well. No date though...

I have had all four. I had the Panny hand-wind (Unitas-based mvmt) and it was a terrible timekeeper. Great looking watch and was a pre-Vendome model from Florence.

Breitling with a 7750, no complaints.

Rolex SD and Deep Sea. Awesome. +1sec a day. Sub as well, same COSC spec. 3135 movement is probably the best timekeeper made. No epicyclic gear train and the rotor rides on a jewel, but amazing and virtually indestructible.

I had a RO carbon fiber for a week. The finish on the CF was getting dull. Back to the dealer for a refund. "Forged" carbon fiber...? my ass.

My daily wearer is a SBBN013 ti/ceramic diver. Worn by North Sea diving crews. Amazing watch. Also the Rolex Deep Sea. I am looking for a Co-Axial Ploprof too.

opinion on watches as investments? are values completely dependent on a strong global economy? which are the most resilient? would Rollies do well if China crashed, etc.?

Their distribution is better than DeBeers. A 10yo Sub sells for more than you paid... can be said for any period since the 60s. Any Rolex sports model, held for a decade, will be worth at least 10% more than you paid, even at MSRP.

Patek will do very well at a discount and held (as above). I personally would rather hold three sports models than one PP for investment. Really it's immune to macro. A Sub bought in 2007 is worth nearly $1K more today. And you can wear it (and you should).

Despite the vague reference to high-end audio in your thread opener, I thought, maybe some real high-end stuff ..... ?

If this is the best you can do, you wouldn't even get a job as a salesguy in a high-end store but if you do get that job don't talk about BASS. You know zip, you'll embarrass yourself. Don't do it, clown

You've got $300 buyers here in this forum, good luck with even middle-low-range Audio. :D:D:D:D:D

Thanks for nothing - High-End Audio my ass.

Hasta luego

Hey asswipe. Learn Engrish. This is the hillbilly "home audio" thread. Good job pointers if I want to take a gig that pays 1% of what I currently earn. Thanks Bro!

Oh win! I found LOS wearing his Grado SR80 (Alessandro) in Pattaya:

Nice cans, LOS!

thanks. I know someone that has done well with low-end Rolexes. Wondering if it had anything to do with China's economy growing so rapidly. All just guesswork at this point.

It used to be easy to buy sport-models at 30% under list in HK and fly them back. Find a few Americans on the flight to wear them back and ship the boxes. It's probably cheaper to buy from AD's in another state (USA) and ship to avoid tax.

For some reason, I've been in an "anything but Rolex" mood for several years. And added only a second/day on the the deep sea? That's almost a freak rarity! Wow! My sub did 3 minimum. You should keep that one close, as the tolerances sound just that: close; smooth. And that crystal is massive! Can't miss it from 1/4 mile, lol! Just for some reason, I've been looking at anything but. Is probably because of wearing that sub every day for years, only wearing the Panerai on certain occasions. And yes, I do own a few watch winders. Had to put them in the closet as they're quiet, but make just enough faint rotating sound to keep me awake, lol! Hello, my name's leap, and I have a watch disease, and not wealthy.:(:D
Sounds like you've got it too. Imagine walking into Arnold's watch room.. I'm sure it's something of dreams, lol!

I was shopping in Chicago when I got into watches and there is a distinct "us vs. them" mentality when it comes to Rolex ADs and standard watch shops. The regular watch shops will push you into anything BUT Rolex. I bought the line that Rolex is "90% marketing" and bought a Breguet Transatlantique from a jeweler. Nice looking watch but ran like crap; -10seconds a day even after sending it in the Breguet for regulation.

The Rolex 3135 runs like a quartz and is bulletproof. The movement costs $1500-$2000 if you can find one used. The ETA in the Breguet is worth maybe $400. Same MSRP on both watches.

Dealers who bash Rolex do so because 1) They don't meet Rolex sales and "visibility" standards, or 2) Joe Public thinks Rolex is the BEST. #2 is reason enough to hate Rolex, so they receive a lot of angst for their BS like, "each watch takes a year to manufacture"

Did well with my stainless w/date Sub. Almost miss it at times, lol. I'm sure I'll do another Rolex someday. Probably another sub. This time, I'd probably buy the one every guy in America has, lol: http://www.chrono24.com/en/rolex/submariner--2-tone--blue-face--16613--id2276064.htm
Is as common as a ford truck, but guys keep coming back year after year to buy this model. It's actually a sharp watch. Just not me everyday.
