Sorry, how is that like climate change?
With the majority of climate scientists convinced of climate change and man's contribution to it, would that not be the "smoke" that suggests some "fire?"
So because other kids stole candy from his store in the past, the owner should surmise a level of guilt about the new kid in his store. Precedent, and all that. Should he kick him out of the store or just give him the hairy eyeball?
No, that would be akin to a bunch of people reading evidence to fit a narrative, or attempting to plug evidence into a narrative. Consider them the same as people who are claiming the IRS has White House involvement, except that the scientists have more hard data and a much, much more complex equation to solve for. But they don't have all the answers or evidence either. If they did, they wouldn't be "off" all the time with predicitions and constantly altering the narrative.
Comparing climate change to the IRS issue is like calling the Sahara a "sand box". One (the climate) is far more complex than the other - by orders of magnitude.
The "smoke" that suggests "fire" in the IRS is the fact that all of these emails are so difficult to get from the IRS. The fact that the IRS lied about them being destroyed. The fact that Lois Lerner refuses to testify. The fact that there are emails of hers showing her disdain for the people she was going after. The fact that she made it personal. I could go on and on.
He should give the kids the hairy eyeball, and be distrustful because he's been burned in the past. Exactly what we have here, except it's the same kids that have returned to the store.

Complex, sure. But those far smarter than both of us on the subject matter predominantly believe that it is a problem that we must deal with sooner rather than later or not at all. They are not equivocating. The people going with the "narrative" are the ones who subscribe to the considerably minor view largely endorsed by vested interests. They latch onto words like "complex" and then slither slowly into the realm of denial. Since you seem to love a conspiracy, which side do you realistically think is more likely to be engaging in one?

Not sure about that, Tsing. I read recently that modeling what percent of consumers will buy hairspray is no less complex than modeling the climate.
