Sorry but it’s not so cut and dry. We are certainly policing in Iraq and a counterforce to Iran there. Out removal allows Iran to move unfettered.
The way you thought is wrong because the information you consume is biased. I know it’s like a plot twist in a movie but you’re actually the one consuming fake news.
But the trump administration finds itself in this position often. Not too long ago the State Department was demanding Iran CONTINUE to stay in compliance with its nuclear agreement after Trump pulled us out on false pretenses.

The point I made was that Trump has not committed to long term nation building but is requiring good behavior - such as not killing americans and theatening us- from other countries.
If the countries that are currently involved in recent attempts by America to nationbuilding- such as Iraq- want to help themselves and work with us then that door is open but if they get difficult- I will say for the fourth time- he is not committed to them. He might work with things that are working, but is not committed to them if they are confrontational with us. The fact that that puts them in the Iranian camp which they are already in, is not a show stopper.
Ditto for Afghanistan. Trump knows that our discontinuing nationbuilding with them means a Taliban takeover, especially since the Taliban already run the place. But that does not change his policy or view.
Good behavior is required by both Iraq and Iran. Bad behavior by Iraq toward us and we are gone. Bad behavior by Iran and well......one of us will be gone.
