Has the FBI ever published a single comment anywhere saying the Confederate Army were terrorists? Has the US Government made any such declaration?
One could make the argument this is a fallacy of inconsistency or a false equivalence. But that would also be subjective in nature, and therefore only an opinion.
That counters your argument they should be seen differently because they were Americans.

How so? Both sides were Americans, and both sides sought external help from allies (the enemy of my enemy is my friend - as you said). If anything, it strengthens my argument.
Dahmers acts does not fit The FBIs definition of terrorism,McVeigh and The Confederacy does.
