Palestinian politician Mustafa Barghouti says he’s concerned Israelis like Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, when vowing “mighty vengeance” against Hamas, are laying the groundwork for civilian deaths in the Gaza Strip.
Here’s what he told ABC radio a few moments ago:
Their approach is to claim that Israel is always the victim and to demonise Palestinians.
Israel has conducted, already, five wars on Gaza which took the lives of more than 5000 people.
The prime minister of Israel said, clearly, that the population of Gaza should leave Gaza so that [Israel] can crush Hamas. That’s what he said. Where should people go? To the sea? Where should they go after they’ve been disposed from their homeland in Palestine?
Asked if he condemned the tactics that have been used by Hamas, Barghouti said:
I condemn any violation of the rights of human beings anywhere. I am against the killing of any Palestinian or any Israeli.
But the picture that is presented to you is misleading because, here, the vast majority of the victims in this conflict [over time] are on the Palestinian side.
