My shooting a man as a Police Officer still haunts me a little worse than what I did in the sandbox... I don't know exactly why it stands out as being so traumatic, but it just is what it is I guess. I can still hear the crickets chirping between the guy's screaming at me to shoot him. After I fired, I heard no more crickets chirping even though I know they were. I was fixated on what I had just done at a distance of ten feet... That was the only time I had to use my firearm as a Police Officer besides the occasional deer that would be struck on the Interstate, and suffering.

All I was trying to point out earlier is the fact that if you guys are common sense, law-abiding folks who want to protect yourselves and your families from evil people, you have the right to own a firearm, and use it if you have to. There are "side effects" you'll experience if you do ever have to use a firearm to protect yourself. Your chances are very slim that you'll need to resort to shooting a person, but there IS that chance that you may run into a very evil person with very bad intentions for you. The chance is there. My advice is stay out of bad areas of town, steer clear of bars where trouble is known to brew, etc., and use your head. That will give you the best chance of living if you AVOID places where bad things happen more often. i.e., never ignore probabilities... Again, there is that chance of an intrusion into your home, a car jacking, robbed as you walk to your car, from the office, beaten for no reason, etc., That's where a firearm would be necessary. But remember, you're not shooting to kill. You're shooting to live...

I couldn't sleep tonight as I was thinking about the past today, and seeing images I wish I could have go far, far away from me. None the less, this is a good post! And yes, you are right. If some thugs want to (Stop reading this now if you're squeamish) rape your daughter as they hold you helpless with YOUR kitchen knives, and you didn't have a weapon to protect her, that's a problem. When I wore a badge for a living, and was paying for some worthless College degree at the time, a home was invaded by some shitbags who raped a Man's Wife, and his daughter as one other shitbag pilfered through the house stealing. Yes, the little girl was torn from her vagina to her rectum, and the wife was also torn in her rectum during the attack. They bled like crazy! Made me so ill, I can't describe it. I investigated the crime(s) with other Officers, and we later found the trash who did it. They are still in prison to this day, BUT the damage was done... The Husband kept telling me as I was taking his statement, "If I only had bought that shotgun... I heard them breaking in, but I had nothing to stop all of this..."

I don't know what else to say besides God will deal with these scumbags someday, and if the Husband had bought that shotgun, we would have been telling him about a cleaning service that comes in to take care of blood, bone matter, and guts that are dispersed by a 12 gauge shotgun blast so he doesn't have to deal with it.

(Yes, there are services that clean up suicides, murders, etc., Do you think the police dept. does this? Not! The medics don't either! I've seen guys put a shotgun under their chin, and let it rip. Yes, the family needs to hire a "cleaning" service to clean up the pieces of the skull, the eye ball that's in the next room, and the brains and blood all over the damned place.)

Also innocent bystanders can be shot and have been in situations where only the criminal was armed!!! I just do not see how being in a situation where only the criminal is armed is somehow safer? Even if the criminal does not have a gun, but has you out numbered...say 5 or 6 guys and you are walking to your car, or taking your girl out for a night on the town and they decide to have some "fun" with her, or just you...having that Sig or Glock could be absolutely crucial at that point. Even if you are not armed, if other decent people are, there is a greater chance that they will at least attempt to help you. Why de-power them? That politician who was so insistent that allowing citizens to carry firearms as a means of self-defense was just too dangerous, usually has armed bodyguards (former Mayor Daley) protecting his/her family. The safety/well being, of your family is just not a priority for them.

Yes, In Switzerland, an 18yr/old male will train with a Sig-550. An AWESOME rifle imo! Handguns in Switzerland I'd have no clue about. I only know about the young MEN who are trained by the Swiss, and will use them if called upon to do so. Btw, they are only "allowed" to keep 50 rounds of ammo on hand in their house for that rifle. Bullshit I say, as many have told me they have cases of ammo for it hidden. None the less, they are issued the rifle, they don't get their homes invaded, and they also don't get fucked with!

I cannot sleep at all after re-living what I've seen/done, and am really wishing I hadn't clicked on this thread to learn I protected people like you while you think like this.

I GUARANTEE you home invasions would almost cease in the US, and muggings, beatings, and rapes by mob scumbags would almost cease.
