Why are living standards in the western world still far ahead of emerging countries?

Believe it or not....in some countries much of the property
has no clear record of title....so even though you own it....somebody else may challenge you that they also own it....

It really is chaotic in some countries....

Similar laws exist in less developed countires. The only difference is in enforcement.

Again, surplus determines a nation's living standard. And many developed nations today have a history of mercantilism. It was the first world that preyed on the third world - hence the headstart and "surplus."

Now, just watch municipalities, states, and the federal government. They are all overindebted. As cuts to services get deeper and deeper, and enforcement officials from the SEC down to the local zoning code enforcer get pay cuts and less support - watch what happens to our "rule of law" and respect for "property rights." Funny thing those bureaucrats - when tough times reach them, all of a sudden they get "entrepeneurial" and use the law to make a living. This can happen ANYWHERE, even in the good 'ole USA.

One can argue that the elites have already started this w/ the capture of the SEC. Just look at the corruption in Wall Street. Soon it will trickle down to main street.

Will the laws still exist on the books? SURE!

Will they be enforced the way they are enforced in say, Nigeria?

We'll see.

Wow, what a short and sweet read that article is... right on the money.. look at the impoverished places in the US and see the exact opposite, no rule of law, lots of aid money coming in... it's just ghetto..

Bad policies kill things. The Left has been all lawyered up since the 70's suing private sector businesses over racial things. That has ensured that almost no Black worker can get a job in the private sector and has given them two choices: public sector job or welfare. Welfare doesn't pay much so they then have to subsidize their income with criminal activity. Then the Left capitalizes on this travesty by telling the Black voters that they are on welfare because of prejudice... the Left has no qualms at all about bottling up the talent of millions of African Americans and keeping them on inner city reservations as long as they get their votes... it's third worldish at best and truly, it's evil...

well, here comes the chinese again... but to put it bluntly, these last few thousand years of human history is now also about to have a bursting bubble. not all are willing to admit that their parents are wrong or all that they have come to learn is wrong. countries... its just another situation down the line that will lead to war, as long as theres anything to create a difference there will be conflict. humans detachment from nature is too widespread and if we dont come out of the dark ages sooner we might die out in a few hundred years also leaving the planet incapable of recreating life from its original designs. religion is probably the 1st conditioning of humans that facilitates the detachment from nature, the rest is easy after. money is the newest religion and likely the last conditioning that will cause our end, for money is a reduction of all that we are, our time, resources and ultimately our origins(nature).

I would say that your idea of the Origin's of life is contrary to mine...

Life scientifically come from space... Every element was made in the Stars... DNA travels very well in space...

Human are outside the life cycle since the "beginning"... take the 10 best hunters of the world at any point in history... they will be able to defeat any other beings, air, sea and ground... and even one a man vs a lion there is a opportunity to bet...

That's where I hate to see myself as a CO2 producer for plants... As if the Planet used us to bring CO2 to an acceptable level for plants and then drops us... to only allow us to restart every like 10'000 years...

I think that the living stardard of the western world will always be higher than those systems that don't have freedom of speech... Thoughts are the only thing that can adapt faster than the change around us ! Losing this tool... is like losing fire for the first men...

If an individual is denied the right to express his thought, I hope that this individual will not be stupid enough to pursue the quest for any other rights ( physical freedom, possession and co... ).
