Nah, it was Uncle Joe, actually... Initially, homosexuality was decriminalised when the Bolsheviks came to power in 1917. But in 1933, after Stalin consolidated his hold on power, he went after the sexual minorities with great vigor. So there you have it... Old attitudes die hard in Russia, especially since Putin has a very particular view of Stalin. Just thought that you should be aware of the origins of the "morals" and the "balls" you admire.
