How is that surprising? In the last 16 years we've completely destabilized the entire Middle East.

It's clear that both the Republicans (McCain/Graham/Rubio/Bush) and the Dems (Obama/Clinton/Soros/MSM/CIA) have been building a case to go to war with Russia.

Syria will be used to get into a shooting war with Russia in the next couple of years if Trump is stupid enough to listen to conventional DC wisdom.

It is easy to look at what has gone on in recent years in the Middle East and say "the US is clearly the biggest threat to global peace," but if you really look at the world today compared to the last 150 years, we probably have more peace today than we have had at any point during that time.

And that makes one wonder, why has the world become more peaceful? There is a compelling argument to be made that the United States military strength coupled with our willingness to intervene on behalf of small nations who cannot defend themselves, has resulted in far fewer dictators invading nations at a whim to pillage them. Just my opinion.

Another compelling argument to be made is that the US have been keen on toppling governments and invading nations too weak to defend themselves.
But yes, it appears the world as a whole is getting safer, yet it's debatable how the US specifically helped that.

Surprising even in Europe, Australia and South Africa, US is seen as the biggest threat....

Just think "Body Count".

We have an amazing military, but we have a democracy that doesn't vote, via apathy and ignorance. Decisions get made by the fifth branch of government, based on hoped-for results that are out-of-step and out-of-tune. Been that way for a hundred years.

Tailored info is fed to Useful Idiots who prattle on, but actually *know* little.

But it's so much Groupthink. The beginnings of the healthcare finance "crisis" were well-documented, loudly discussed, and forgotten 30 years ago. *Exactly* the same with the supposed student debt "crisis" and housing finance crisis, and with Iraq (where Bush I. was *roundly* criticized for not going to Baghdad and taking the Saddam cover off of the Sunni/Shia pot...) etc etc......

Any fair MPA graduate will tell you some public policy precepts that we have danced all over for decades. The latest is the economics secundine that We Need A Wall or that a Border Adjustment Tax will save 'Merican Jobs. (Or bring them back, or whatever.)

But the "geniuses" who are in charge are 1) not so smart and 2) not so much interested in solutions as in perpetual, low-level, domestic "crisis" to keep the machine running.

Wow! What a bummer of a post. Not like me.

But no -- the world is *not* safer. Look at deaths due to military conflict (including induced famine) over the last century. Either by raw numbers, or by percentage of world population, the globe is doing quite poorly. No nukes! No wars between the major powers, directly! And we can call that at least a partial victory. But the middle third of Africa, dying by the day, because of upheaval at the barrel of a gun, would tell you the same as Syria: this stinks.

An alternative explanation(s) would be that (a) in the world of increasing economic prosperity, wars have become more socially expensive and harder for politicians to justify and (b) nuclear proliferation and the resulting MAD doctrine has prevented a full-out wars between super-powers.

Please note that out of 3 major wars (10,000+ deaths in current or past year) ongoing, the US has had a pivotal role in starting all.

While the economic impact of the US toward the victory over Germany is undeniable, the military contribution is debatable at best.

you probally ain't old enough to understand. If you were you wouldn't be saying such stupid statements.

That said i am all for being a total isolationist nation. Stay out of it all. Screw em. let the rest of the world tend to their own business and problems. Screw the economics too. Forget the damn trade agreements. I detest globalism. It is the modern scourge on the face of the earth.

USA doesn't play nice with anyone. Either believe in our ways of screwed up government or we will bomb up your country at our costs then hand back your country so now you have 1,000 people in charge. I laugh when I hear the USA gave food and medical aid to some 3rd world country, the food/medical comes off the planes and right into drug lords' warehouses so their solders have the good vittles, right granny? Am hoping some go to where it supposed to help, it is like that commercial "just 17 cents a day some kid can eat for a week", wonder if CEO of that company makes 16.5 cents of every donation.

We been tip toeing with other countries to not have nuclear capabilities by giving them more knowledge and equipment, how dumb we are. We need to make more of a stand of going with the flow of the U.N., they never first one's at the party.

We need to pay our share for the U.N. instead of paying way beyond, move that building to Switzerland or South Pole.

War is good business.
