However much it was, it was more vocal, more bold. And it turned pretty much on a dime, right around the time Obama became president, which must have been a bitter pill for the master race to swallow. And then, stuck with him, they made it their life's work to "prove" that everything Obama did was exactly the wrong thing at the wrong time. Obama has been more disrespected than perhaps any other president.I can't say exactly how much if any "extra" racism was added, "feels" like some, but in my life I have seen the same thing more than once: every time there's a downturn many in the public turn on immigrants, "blacks", and sinners.
As for the rest of it, sure, there's always scapegoating during an economic downturn, especially a pronounced one. But this one had a kick start from the get-go.
