USA is sinking into 3rd world status

It was my impression that paved roads are the enemy according to the crowd Krugman runs with. Don't paved roads make it easy to use the evil oil-chugging, carbon-emitting automobile for transportation, as opposed to bikes, trains, or whatever the latest eco-fad is? Therefore, one would think that the fact that we are "unpaving" roads would be a very enlightened and promising move according to the Krugman crowd.

The guy is an idiot and the only man in America who is more consistently wrong about EVERYTHING than Alan Greenspan.

I also agree that life/living standards in America are no better and possibly worse than a large number of other advanced nations. This doesn't make Krugman any less wrong though. America DOES NOT have a better pot to piss in. This may have been true for a short period of time in the middle of this century, but is mostly a myth.

Quote from Debaser82:

It's very hard to have the mental power to acknowledge your own country is slipping away.

Ask an Italian, Spanjard, German, Japanese or American where they think life is best and where it is worst and many will chose their own as the best.

Slipping is one thing...third world country status is laughable and quite a ways away yet...

Think of the true "third world countries" in this world, and compare them to the USA. Anyone who thinks they are similar are fools.

America Goes Dark
By PAUL KRUGMAN

The lights are going out all over America — literally. Colorado Springs has made headlines with its desperate attempt to save money by turning off a third of its streetlights, but similar things are either happening or being contemplated across the nation, from Philadelphia to Fresno.

Meanwhile, a country that once amazed the world with its visionary investments in transportation, from the Erie Canal to the Interstate Highway System, is now in the process of unpaving itself: in a number of states, local governments are breaking up roads they can no longer afford to maintain, and returning them to gravel.

And a nation that once prized education — that was among the first to provide basic schooling to all its children — is now cutting back. Teachers are being laid off; programs are being canceled; in Hawaii, the school year itself is being drastically shortened. And all signs point to even more cuts ahead.

We’re told that we have no choice, that basic government functions — essential services that have been provided for generations — are no longer affordable. And it’s true that state and local governments, hit hard by the recession, are cash-strapped. But they wouldn’t be quite as cash-strapped if their politicians were willing to consider at least some tax increases.

And what about the economy’s future? Everything we know about economic growth says that a well-educated population and high-quality infrastructure are crucial. Emerging nations are making huge efforts to upgrade their roads, their ports and their schools. Yet in America we’re going backward.

Check out how much the salaries, benefits, and pensions of state and local govt workers have increased over the last 10 years. This has nothing to do with too little taxes collected.

there is a simple solution to our fiscal woes: cut back on all defense/military spending that we pour into the defense of other countries and continents.

close all external bases.

follow ron paul's example of removing ourselves from the policemen of the world.

we'll have boat loads of cash.

America's coffin is being closed with Zionist nails. America's decline began the day AIPAC took over congress.

The biggest threat to America is not some raghead hiding in some Afghan cave, it's the average southern evangelical christian. These southern inbred voters consistently vote only on issues pertaining to god gays and guns and will reliably vote against their own interests.

I guess the pain needed to induce change can only be proportional to the stupidity

Oh no... we just couldn't elect someone like Ron Paul... or even Sara Palin.

HOW MUCH WORSE OF A CHOICE COULD WE HAVE MADE? After all, Hitler and Stalin are dead.

Exactly. After studying and watching for the last few years I am convinced there will be no change until someone other than a Democrat or Republican is voted into office. They are both backed by the Bilderberg Group.

Look at how much we spend on military spending compared to other nations around the world. Look at how much we waste on a F-22 or F-35 even while the military says the battles of the future will require more special forces.

Quote from Free Thinker:

colorado springs is going broke because it is a religious mecca. they have let so many churches move into that town that they have destroyed the tax base because churches are tax exempt.

Although houses of worship of almost every major religion can be found in the city, Colorado Springs has attracted a large influx of Evangelical Christians and Christian organizations in recent years. At one time Colorado Springs was counted to be the national headquarters for 81 different religious organizations, earning the city the tongue-in-cheek nickname "the Evangelical Vatican"[41] and "The Christian Mecca"[citation needed]. Religious groups with regional or international headquarters in Colorado Springs include: the Association of Christian Schools International, the Christian and Missionary Alliance, Compassion International, Focus on the Family, HCJB, the International Bible Society, The Navigators, the Roman Catholic Diocese of Colorado Springs, WAY-FM Media Group, Andrew Wommack Ministries, and Young Life

Spot on. I thought about moving there and they I was warned about he excess of bible thumpers. Focus on the Family no thanks. Ted Haggard, no thanks. Too many hypocrites and extremists. What's laughable is the get a tax exemption and then break the law by talking about politics all the time. But hey they are doing god's work right. Sorry that's Loyd. :p

correct: Palin is too dumb to organize something like Hitler or Stalin did. but a dummy can be controlled by somebody evil from behind the curtains.
