Thank you for the interesting articles. As we have already gone over the cognitive abilities of the aged, I will focus on partisanship.I am not in my 60s, my profile shows 52. I hate hippies, except Neil from "The Young Ones" but then only for comedy value.
If it were not for finding trading I would be a vegetable like @gwb-trading from too many years of I.T. consultant work. Ok, not that bad but not good. If you don't use it you lose it, throwing around very large sums of money keeps me feeling the cutting edge of risk and helps me mentally.
I have the money to try at least to preserve my cognitive function, something I am doing. I live in Colombia for several reasons one being access to some cutting edge medicine.
Humans were never meant live past 50-60 naturally, the right to vote should stop at around 72 in my opinion, some get wiser, most get really really stupid and don't realise it or refuse to admit it (afraid, we all feel some). The old can guide the young but not vote and if they are old bastards who's kids don't care about them, they are failures and their opinions not worth anything much to society. Life is cruel.
It is unfair to the young at the moment how easily manipulated minds hang on to power (on average). In 100 years we will have adjusted to this demographic change & medicine will improve to slow neuronal atrophy but now, it is a mess.
There are many studies that show.. hell we all just know that con-men target the elderly and why. Part of the political mitosis is the politicians, particularly Republicans had a new demographic to bullshit. That some Republicans introduced and obstructionist agenda in the later 80s is not new, what was new is it worked as they had the grey vote. Now technology has played a big part in the creating the echo-chamber however it would have taken far longer in a classic voting population, the young and middle aged far more mixed in viewpoint (macro level).

It is my belief when you have people who have different perspectives debating a issue, a better solution will more likely be discovered than if one perspective has the power to force through their agenda without sufficent input from other interested parties.
There seem to be fewer common goals between the Left and right with mistrust on both sides. Whether by dark design or an unitentional consequence, the media’s efforts to acquire viewers through stoking strong emotional responses appears to add to the polarization and mistrust on both sides.
In the past, when more citizens were involved with the church than today, shared goals were more common. In addition, patriotism seemed higher in the past and thus was a common theme that was shared among people with different perspectives.
People with shared goals are more likely to respect each other and are more likely to consider the other side’s input into a problem.
I propose the following shared goal for Elite Trader Political Forum participants:
1. We will refrain from ad hominem attacks and instead focus on the issue and its points.
2. We will always tell the whole truth. We will not misquote, mischaracterize, take things out of context, use statistics in a misleading way, use red hearings, or any other manipulation of the truth.
3. We will do our best to try to see through our opponent eyes and try to understand where they are coming from, because in reality, most people have a solid basis for their opinions.
4. We will reduce or eliminate our participation with those who consistently engage in ad hominem attacks or persistently attempts to otherwise detract from the discussion.
I believe if we adhere to the above rules, we will benefit from the participation of others and have more thorough discussions. Although venting is healthy and understandable, I for one, believe there is a benefit for all participants of this forum to be able to be heard by reasonable people and to hear reasonable people on issues we care about.
By each one of us commiting to this “code of conduct”, we will be easily be able to expose any trolls that may visit this forum. After all, there is nothing worse for a troll than both sides respecting each other and searching for solutions to the problems that face us.
I will commit to this code of conduct regardless of how many others here are willing to commit to it.
How about you?
