Ann Coulter predicted that the VP selection could mark Trump's first big mistake. Looks like she was right. The rumored pick, Indiana Gov. Mike Pence, pushed a Paul Ryan-type amnesty plan as a congressman. More recently he is known for folding like a cheap lawn chair after Indiana passed a law protecting Christians (and muslims) from having to participate in gay weddings. Pence managed to alienate both sides of the debate, no mean feat for someone so wishy washy.
While Trump had a smaller field than normal to choose from, since so many establishment pols opposed him, he could have easily picked someone better, a lot better. Chris Christie would at least have had his back, is great with the media and would not be embarrassed in the VP debate like Paul Ryan was.
Pence comes from a state that Trump will easily carry, no matter who his VP is. He could carry Indiana if he had picked Mike Tyson. Or Mike Ditka.
A governor like Pat McGrory of NC at least would have helped in a crucial swing state. In addition, he showed backbone in standing up to the gay mafia. No doubt the consultants "helping" Trump now considered him too controversial.
At least he didn't make an even bigger mistake and pick Gingrich, despite Sean Hannity's frantic cheerleading. If he had, the only women's votes he could really count on would have been Ivanka and Melania, and I'm not even sure Melania can vote here.
