Trump Doubles Down On Wall

In his speech last night, Trump appeared to rule out any compromises or backsliding on his signature issue, the border wall. He said he was prepared for a government shutdown if that is what is needed to force congress to fund it. He also singled out democrats for endangering national security by their opposition to the wall. http://www.washingtonexaminer.com/t...down-over-border-wall-funding/article/2632308

This is very good news to Trump fans. The spirit of Bannon lives on apparently. The number one goal of the Never Trump wing of the republican party has been to deny him his wall. It's the number two goal of democrats, after impeachment.

Trump's escalation of rhetoric follows reports that his relations with Senate Maj. Leader Mitch McConnell are at rock bottom, punctuated by a profanity laced shouting match over the phone following the defeat of obamacare repeal. Trump knows that the one thing McConnell dreads above all else is a government shutdown on his watch. Obama used the threat effectively to turn McConnell and Paul Ryan into his compliant bitches. It appears Trump is looking to do the same.

Perhaps the outpouring of criticism of Trump following his Charlottesville remarks and subsequent news conference has had a liberating effect on him. He sees congress as a hostile force but also as weak and ineffectual. For an alpha predator like Trump, that is like an invitation to bend them to his will or destroy them. His fans will be divided on which option is preferable.

I and most democrats would absolutely love for the republican party to shut down the government over Trumps wall, and keep it shut down until the 2018 midterms.

Contrary to what the dems want though, there is no free pass here for immigrants. It is a much tougher scenario for them. Trump is willing to trade a deal on DACA for a deal on the wall but the dems are just giving him the finger. Thus, Trump will continue to just get the number of illegals down by aggressive enforcing existing law, including any daca immigrants who either break the law or are in households that are raided for other reasons.

The dems are in an almost hopeless position on daca unless they deal with trump. The only way they could defeat daca is through enacting a law to replace the executive order. But how do you do that. Even if the dems make major gains in the midterms, Trump still has veto power over any bill that passes attemting to overturn it. Meanwhile, Trump is able to show outstanding data in regard to already reducing the flow of illegals. Yes, I know that he owes the wall to his base but he is still able to demonstrate that he is the go-to candidate if you want the number of illegals to be less rather than more.

As would I and probably all of Trump's voters.

My side is willing to shut it down until the mid terms over wall funding, just as we were in Mayl. Please do everything you can to make your side do it and don't let them cave again.

Actually, a very smart strategy indeed!

Democrats chalk up big wins in government funding deal

Democrats scored some major victories despite their position in the minority in the bipartisan agreement reached late Sunday on legislation that would fund the government through September.

The $1.1 trillion omnibus spending package, for example, does not fund President Trump's planned wall along the U.S.-Mexico border, funding for Planned Parenthood is included and the deal would provide the National Institutes of Health (NIH) with a budget boost, rather than the $1.2 billion cut that the White House proposed.
