The Sanford police say there was an eyewitness who gave a statement at the scene that matched what Zimmerman told them. They aren't releasing the identity of the eyewitness and are claiming that the eyewitness would be in danger if they released his/her name.
There is a link near the front of this thread where they talk about the "secret witness" and there was a discussion about what that persons statement said today on KNX radio in Los Angeles. They said that the eyewitness statement is the main reason Zimmerman was released and given his weapon back. Zimmerman is still permitted to carry that weapon.
Its probable that persons identity will have to come out if there is a grand-jury investigation and a DOJ investigation because Obama needs to divide the country further to enhance his reelection chances.
Both the Sanford police chief and the local DA have been removed from office. The Sanford City Council voted 'no confidence' in the chief and demanded that the city manager fire him. The police chief 'stepped aside temporarily' instead of being suspended from the office while the paperwork for his permanent removal is being processed.
Similarly the local DA has been removed by the state authorities. This local DA is on a "leave of absence" when the media attempts to contact him and not handling other cases. It is just a matter of time until the permanent removal termination papers are processsed.
In the article below the main witness (who police won't release the name) was apparently located by a Fox TV station crew from Orlando. In their story of what they asked the witness the headline reads, "Witness: Martin Attacked Zimmerman".
However, there are very few direct comments from the witness in the story and the part saying he saw Martin attack Zimmerman is not included. Whether that is because of space limitations or that isn't exactly how the witness worded it is not known.
So, unless there is further information about this witness's statements released, he may have said that or he may have said something slightly different.
I don't think they would use that headline, though, unless they were reasonably sure that's what he said or meant.

There is a link up front in this thread and you can check Drudge as well. Sorry you are so disturbed over this. I think it sucks that this kid was killed but assaulting an armed man can have a negative outcome.
Good on the first point. I agree - until further information comes foward - nobody knows who started the physical confrontation.
And yes, it is absurd that the media, NAACP, Al Sharpton, Black Panthers, Jeese Jackson, etc. obsess over this one murder and do not address the hundreds of black-on-black murders that are commonplace. It comes down to that many of these organization solely exist for stirring the racism pot in order to keep money coming in from donors and corporations that they have 'green-mailed'.

Yes, I have read the links and this is NEVER stated by any eyewitness.
Seems like a dumb move to keep the star witness hidden? All the unknowns surrounding the case gave the race-pimps enough leeway to whip the black community into a frenzy. Had the witness actually come out and said, ya, treyvon attacked him first, game over. Case closed. The deafening roar would be toned down to a whimper.
