CA Electric: Everyone, outside of CA, agrees that this was a self-inflicted wound that the CA regulators set-up....Enron, among others, merely took advantage of stupid legislators....

The legislature was not just stupid it was corrupted via money and bribes.

For instance, it was well documented in San Diego that an energy concern illegally paid off the people in charge of the deregulation.

Hilariously enough, for those of us that live in Cali, The whole electric fiasco was the catalyst that got the Governator in office.

Folks finally had enough of the stupid deregulation that the vote seekers put in place. PG&E couldn't charge more to develop more power plants OR buy electricity from other producers from out of state. They were basivally insolvent and unable to even buy power, so the state had to step in and sign contracts to buy power, and the various power producers said sure, we'll sell you power at this outrageous price.

Bye bye Gray.....

Quote from AAAintheBeltway:

I think some of you are underestimating the harm Carter did. He is really the father of islamofascist terrorism. He pulled the persian carpet out from under the Shah of Iran, because of his concern for "human rights", then sat passively as the islamists took over and proceeded to slaughter thousands of Iranians who had cooperated with us. Then he sat passively as they took over our embassy and held us hostage for a year. Then he completely sold us out with the accord that freed the hostages. If he had acted decisively at any point, the world would have been spared 30 years of Iranian-sponsored terrorism and a future of Iranian nukes.
Must agree, good observation (in hindsigh though). Letting the sjah out and the ayatollah in was the start of a lot of trouble.

SoFla unemployment is under 3%. That's the most important figure there is.....

A lot of Republicans love to claim that incredible growth and commensurate debt/deficit reduction that occurred under Bill Clinton was just a matter of being in the right place at the right time...but I'm sure you're not one of them. :)

Ah, the regulators/legislator were corrupt and stupid.....

But, yet you blame it on George Bush?????

I don't understand the connection????

Please explain....

SteveD

You were the guy who came after me. Now I see you are ignorant of the facts. Go back and learn something about the energy crisis and how it was manufactured. Then reread what I wrote. I did not blame it all on Bush. I said Bush had a chance to moderate the screwing. But instead of doing what was right Cheney was secretly meeting with the corupt Enron dopes.

So you want the President of the United States to get involved with a regulatory issue in one state???

It is well known that California shot itself in the foot with their screwy energy plan.....traders took advantage of it....how much was illegal or legal I do not know.....

Was anyone ever charged or convicted?

It is easy and popular to have self serving PR statements by brain dead politicians....

Remember, CA is a state that is losing businesses by the thousands on a daily basis.....

The city of Houston is lobbying very hard to have Chevron move their world headquarters to Houston....leave San Francisco...

Cheny's "secret" energy meetings:

So, if you are working on an energy plan, would you be talking to the American Medical Association or maybe, the Red Cross????

Of course you talk to the companies in the ENERGY business!!!!

That is how the real world operates.....

I am not trying to put you down, but one has to listen to both sides of a situation....use some common sense...

you people are all such degenerate morons... you all still by into the notion that there are actually 2 different parties... you are all doing exactly what they want you to do... bicker over meaningless differences while ignoring the big picture... you are arguing over the change on the floor when someone is running off with your wallet... it's these sort of diversions that you sheep buy into that allows the travisty that has become the usa to continue it's current course...

you are as much the problem as the dems putting up crappy candidates. At least I said I voted for a third party candidate.

Instead of ranting like a first semester political science student - try suggesting some ways to fix the system.

When the fifth largest economy in the world is involved you are damn right the president should be involved.

As I said educate yourself. Bush appointed the chairmen of ferc. it was ferc's job under federal law to prevent manipulation of the energy market. There was a moment in time ferc had a chance to straighten out the mess.

you are daft to use a word from another thread.

If you have two dumb bastards, one who was arguably the biggest dick head in viet nam and the senator with one of the worst voting records in the senate and had worse grades than our dumb president, you expect me to vote for the guy who could also do the most damage to the supreme court?

Besides now that we have seen how duplicitious the Dems with war and the Middle east. (Supporting tought talk against iran) and not getting us out of Iraq, how do you know Kerry would not have been worse?

Your 1st year poly sci thesis about the two parties being the same seems to counter your argument about the culpability of the people who voted for bush.
