the sooner we get away from BEEF

Quote from R. Raskolnikov:

yeah...sounds like a GREAT way to live

LoL

He was making a point with the literary device of allegory.

Too often we eat for taste with total disregard for nutrition or the eventual harm our choices inflict on us.

You THINK you need to eat this to be happy. But you don't really. The tastiest meals I've ever had were completely VEGAN and devoid of saturated fat.

Your PALATE is largely a LEARNED conditioned "reflex", just like Pavlov's dogs.

But in this case, the dog is poisoned and eventually DIES! prematurely.

WOW

Low-carb diets clog up arteries!

Now, a study led by team of Harvard researchers at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (BIDMC) provides some of the first data on this subject, demonstrating that mice placed on a 12-week low-carbohydrate/high-protein diet showed a significant increase in atherosclerosis, a buildup of plaque in the heart’s arteries and a leading cause of heart attack and stroke. The findings also showed that the diet led to an impaired ability to form new blood vessels in tissues deprived of blood flow, as might occur during a heart attack.

Described in today's online edition of the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS), the study also found that standard markers of cardiovascular risk, including cholesterol, were not changed in the animals fed the low-carb diet, despite the clear evidence of increased vascular disease!

What more evidence do you need!??! saturated fat is bad for you. MEAT is full of saturated fat! construct your LOGICAL conclusion!!!

killthesunshine, this quote is from the link you post.

vascular health can be affected by macronutrients other than fat and cholesterol – in this case, protein and carbohydrates.

“Understanding the mechanisms responsible for these effects, as well as the potential restorative capacity that may counteract vascular disease, could ultimately help guide doctors in advising their patients,” added Rosenzweig. “This issue is particularly important given the growing epidemic of obesity and its adverse consequences. For now, it appears that a moderate and balanced diet, coupled with regular exercise, is probably best for most people.”

That article did not prove (DO NOT EAT SATURATED FAT)
It prove (BALANCE) of fat, carbohydrate, protein most likey help (restore) the artery

I've been to several vegan restaurants in NYC and I'm going to stick with moderation in my diet. I'm not a fan of extreme's.

That was the usual unspecific general disclaimer made at end of all these press releases. What IS the perfect "balance" of macronutrient?

"demonstrating that mice placed on a 12-week low-carbohydrate/high-protein diet showed a significant increase in atherosclerosis, a buildup of plaque in the heart’s arteries"

At this point, from the results of this (and many other) study we know it ain't LOW CARB which by definition means arbitrarily restricting plant protein and increasing animal product.

*I* am a VEGETARIAN, proud of it!

I am screaming it to the world..

I see it now, you pick up your dope, walking along St. Marks to those East Village/Alphabet City vegan spots, munchies in full effect.

Speaking of St. Marks, have you ever eaten at Dojo?

Believe me, going to the Vegan joints (no pun intended) was not my call but I also wanted to keep an open mind. One place was called Caravan of dreams, the other Pure in Union Sq area.

Never been to Dojo, it's good?

That's interesting.. "i'll stick with moderation".

What is "moderation, and why is a position of "moderation" deemed automatically superior to a [real] choice?

Sounds like a cop out to me. I'm too lazy to investigate the evidence so i'll just stay right in the middle of the road. No direction just "SAFELY" in the middle standing on the double yellow lines. :D

Is this how you take your next trade.. in moderation? Take a real choice!BE a man! :D

This isn't a black or white issue, at least not for me. I don't agree with your position and also don't agree that we all should eat tons of red meat all the time either.

I like meat, meat DOES have a purpose nutritionally speaking so I'm not going to give it up (plus i DO enjoy it). But I also understand that too much meat is DEFINITELY bad for you.

You ever hear the story of the girl who died from drinking too much water? True story....everything in moderation even the stuff that makes up 80 or whatever high percent of our bodies.
