Okay, did you care before Obamacare about those without health insurance?
Yes, my best friend pays nosebleed rates because of a serious pre-existing condition. He basically donates a big chunk of his income towards health insurance.
Now, do I think that we should focus some attention on the fact that he could not obtain health insurance outside of a state exchange that dealt specifically with those that were rejected by private insurers? Yes.
Did I think that we should have destroyed the entire private insurance market to address this small percentage of the population that deals with these issues? Hell No!
Was health insurance a complete racket with absurd premium increases year after year? Hell Yes!
All that we've done, as far as I can see (and believe me I've spent the past 2-3 months reading everything I can about this law), is take a bad situation and make it infinitely worse...and we haven't even reached the implementation stage of this overhaul.
We're still stuck in the red tape of trying to get people to sign up, to make premium payments, to determine who gets subsidies, how much...to figure out how many of those who previously had outrageously expensive insurance policies will drop out altogether (high deductibles, high co-pays and ridiculous monthly premiums).
The problem with many of these debates is that we can never even get to the stage where we discuss the actual details of the new law. We're still stuck in the hysteria over the website; that's yesterday's news.
