ITSAME:
Good point. Most people do not understand the 2 year budget cycle or the fact that Texas has a huge Rainy Day Fund.
The legislator voted to tap into it, which I disagree with.
However, if you look at the true over all numbers, Texas is fine. We will be in far better shape than 90% of the country.
Oil & Gas is on fire again. We are funding 2X as many drilling projects in the "Shale" game than last year. Year over Year we have raised 30% of wait we raised last year. At this pace, we should raise well over 100% of what we did last year for Drilling Projects.
Texas does have a Lazy immigration policy. However, that is about to change. Also, word on the street is Public Employees are about to get a serious axe handed to them. As we speak Teachers in Houston or being let go.
Texas still has huge growth. More and more people from the East and West are moving here. I was just at SXSW, half the people I ran into are from out East and they are looking for jobs and living space.
Construction in many parts of the State is still going strong. They did lay off the excess fat, but who didn't.
I am meeting with more and more VC's who are looking to roll their California Dollars, into Startups down here. The Tech Industry, Biotech Industry and Oil Industry are on a huge growth run.
Exports out of Houston's ports are back above the pre-recession levels of 08.
Mexican Wealth is pouring into Texas (San Antonio) and they are setting up their companies here. These are the Wealthy business mexicans.
So, while the 27 Billion was a bit of a slap, the state is going to be fine.
Every year since 04, I have been able to increased my net worth Living here in Texas. Many people I know have started companies and they seem to be doing well.
So, for those in the West and East, your pain is going to last far longer than the pain felt in Texas.
