Teachers' Unions Profit at Students' Expense

Exactly. Close thread. Either let the free market give us educational choices. Or stick with the beaurucratic monopoly that has driven costs through the roof with poor results.

Make sure "Tony Stark" didn't forget the /sarc off at the end of that tirade...

Hard to trust a sockpuppet that shows the same level of OCD shilling as AK47...

Haha very true. However he acknowledged hillarys list of short comings and major health issues. So my respect level went up for him a few points.

In my view, at least he has the integrity to admit the facts as they're presented. Many liberals here won't even look at the scandals hillarys involved in. Let alone discuss them

I was under the impression you live in Canada...do you pay property taxes in the U.S? Just curious.

Government + Unions = Evil

The largest reason that California has a chronic budget problem, not Prop 13 like the money grabbers claim.

Edit: Not a fan of unions in general, but private sector unions serve a purpose and have their place.

Exactly. Unions serve a purpose but not in government.

I am for classes with very few pupils ( max 5 per class), for very highly trained teachers ( like in Japan), and for plenty of additional supports for the school ( sport teachers, music teachers, art teacher, behaviour specialists, etc).

That would be prohibitively expensive imo.

That would be prohibitively expensive imo.

I do not have any kid yet, but it occured to me that :
* classes with very few pupils ( 5 max per class)
* highly trained teachers
* team of full support ( sport teachers, music teachers, art teachers, behaviour specialists, etc)
would lead to a very low failure rate very quickly. So somehow, there are clear paths to success.

Now, you are justly pointing out the cost.
So the questions would be ( USA case)
* To reduce class sizes by 6 in the USA , as classes are around 30plus pupils per class :
what would it take? how much would it cost?
* To have highly trained teachers : what would it take ? how much would it cost?
* To build teams of full support : what would it take? how much would it cost?

Now regarding the costs of failure :
- how much does it really cost society if a kid derails from school at age 10, 12, 14, 16, 18 and at college-year?
For this costing what should be included?
* costs bear by victims ( robberies, assaults, stress and anxiety, crimes, etc)
* cost bear by society ( prisons, police, judicial system, etc)
* "opportunity cost" lost for society

So you want nobody to be educated because you don't want to pay for it. I guess a better use for your money will be locking up the uneducated youth in prison when they come rob houses in your neighborhood.

You're always trying to think of ways to spend my money, aren't you?
How about you let me spend my own money?

If you really believe in the theory of evolution that is taught in schools, then you should want those who go around robbing houses and are a deteriorate to society to be exterminated. If you want to be a compassionate society and let them live, then you don't really believe in the theory of evolution. Except when it suits your agenda.

Investigation after investigation show that students coming out of high school aren't even equipped to go to work in a job that requires basic math or communications skills or some such thing.
More data show students unprepared for work, but what to do about it?

Even after college, the same thing.

But they come out and they know diversity is our strength, global warming is a fact, homosexuality is normal, etc., etc.

And we're being told that we have to have our money taken away from us to make sure we have an educated society because it's in all our best interests. And we're not allowed to question that premise?

Actually the theory of evolution would make the case that the large bands of criminals hanging together like a pack of wolves would have a significant advantage over their victims -- thus leading to the survival of the "fittest" in view that solitary animals rarely survive when faced with aggressive packs.

In your fantasy, no tax world who is going to stop the packs of criminals. You are unwilling to pay money for public services such as police. So effectively your utopia looks like a version of Mad Max.

The gov't was formed with certain enumerated powers such as defending the country and it's citizens. I don't know anyone on the right who isn't willing to pay taxes to uphold those legit functions of gov't. It wasn't formed to take over our lives and indoctrinate children in all of the left's belief systems. And since we seem to be beyond any possible hope of returning the gov't to its originally proscribed functions, yes, I'm all in favor of this gov't going completely away. Forever.
