Should the term "Democrat Party" be abolished?

You don't want a one party system (however much you dislike the other party).. The lesson of the DPRK should suffice. What we need is civil discourse. We can disagree, but that is it. We disagree. A civil discourse.

Alabama considers lifting interracial marriage ban

MONTGOMERY, Alabama (CNN) -- The Alabama House of Representatives is set to vote on a controversial bill that would repeal a ban on interracial marriages.

Last year, a similar measure died in a legislative committee. But on Wednesday, a House panel voted to send the proposed constitutional amendment to the full House for consideration.

Alabama is the last state in the union to have such a law on its books. Although the state stopped enforcing it decades ago, after the U.S. Supreme Court ruled such laws unconstitutional, the fact that it has not been officially repealed remains a sore point for many in Alabama.

"These kinds of things represent oppression and slavery and discrimination against black people," said Rep. Alvin Holmes, who introduced the bill to the legislature.

Major Cox, who is black, and his wife, Margaret, who is white, would also like to see the law repealed, although they have been married for 18 years.

"Taking it off (the books) will be a recognition of the progress that the state is making," she said.

If the bill is approved by the House and Senate, it will clear the way for a statewide vote.

A recent poll in Alabama indicated high support for the bill. About 63 percent of those who responded to the poll favored lifting the ban on interracial marriage while 26 percent were opposed. Ten percent said they were not sure or had no reply.

Poll: 46 Percent of Mississippi GOP Want to Ban Interracial Marriage

Also, those folks are pretty keen on Sarah Palin

So the liberal-leaning Public Policy Polling outfit posed a revealing question to Mississippi Republicans in their latest survey: "Do you think interracial marriage should be legal or illegal?"

Shockingly, 46 percent of the state's GOP voters replied "illegal." 14 percent bizarrely responded "not sure." That means about 60 percent of these Southern Republicans are hearkening back to a time--1958 to be exact--when the American mainstream overwhelmingly looked down on people with different shades of skin getting married.

Very instructive that these debates were so recent : roughly 2000.
More it goes and more I am realizing I have really no understanding of the long terms effects of the transatlantic slave trade to people's behaviours.
From finding out about it, 2019 would be basically 400 years of this kind of stuff and its system lasted in the country that brought it to its paroxism ( USA),
and to have this "Charlottesville" going on, really shows how deep the issue is into the
subconscious of Americans.
May be Americans really need to discuss it really openly and get to the bottom/truth of it.
May be one day, it will be too late.

One of the reasons why I don't like to debate you, is that you like to nitpick your evidence while ignoring the whole 'enchilada'. I still stand that racism is split evenly among political parties and that the % of racist people in this country is rather small. Live with that. :fistbump:

Racism in the south keeps getting passed down from generation to generation. It is getting better but its not ending anytime soon imo.I cant say I would support the south winning the civil war in 1865 because slavery would have gone on longer but today I would support and vote for the original confederate states and a few other red states like Oklahoma,West Virginia,Kansas,Missouri and Kentucky and start their own conservative white supremacist nation.

If this were ever to happen I think I would support very tough immigration laws and a wall to keep southern confederates from coming back to The US

The progressive left WANTS a one-party system... some form of socialistic dictatorship. And they thought they had it nailed down with the presumed Hellary win. I like Bannon's comment, "you don't think they're going to let you take your country back without a fight, do you?"

That's what all of this turmoil is about.

Well said. Too many fanatical priests of their political masters out there - "my party can do no wrong, your party is all about evil". Wake up already.

This is just an example of your bigoted attitude towards the South. Let's ask a few questions:
1) Which states have the least segregated public school systems in the U.S.?
2) Which states have the smallest income gaps between blacks and whites?
3) Which states excel in educational results for blacks?
4) Which states have the most blacks per portion of their population working in public service?

You will find that states outside the South lag sadly in attitudes towards race, educational results, and racial disparity.

I am not going to make the case that the South is all roses in regards to race relations and rural poverty, but there are many very progressive areas of the South including the Raleigh/Durham area.

Umm. Yeh, but it is complicated-er than that now.

The progressive left greatly fears a Hillary type of win in the same way that the republicans feared some kind of jeb bush party dud win so decided to take a walk on the wild side.

I fully acknowledge that there is nothing but bad press for Trump and company- especially after this Charlottesville scenario- but- make no mistake about it- the dem party is in serious trouble for 2020. After they lost in 2016 they had their little off-site meetings and all concluded that the dems needed to recapture the working class and mainstream moderate americans to win. Problem is, the bernie/deBlasio wing is the loudest and most energetic and is pushing the party further and further to the left at a time when they are trying to capture the middle ground again. They are on dangerous turf now. You take Robert E. Lee down and maybe you will pick up some votes. You take Washington or Jefferson down and you are pulling the plug on the America that has always been- and I mean that to be taken literally.

So the dems are having their little fun with their designated enemy -Trump- right now but as we get to 2020- or even before for 2018- all these foaming at the mouth lefties know that their real enemy is the DNC who will turn out some kind of Terry McAuliffe or Corey Booker type dud if left to itself. The energized part of the dem party is aligned over with the nutjobs. Good luck trying to recapture that moderate base when the republicans start running ads 24/7 showing pictures of people tearing down and spitting on Jefferson.

The progressives were unable to embrace hillary in 2020 after the dnc stabbed bernie. They also know that that dnc superdelegate system is rigged to choose a dnc-approved candidate in advance- or at least to give them a major lead right out of the gate. The progressives are definitely not going to support some dnc dud who could be moderate enough to capture some of the votes that trump got. And yet they lose even more votes by going further to the left.

Yeh, they are having their little fun this week but they are losing ground bigly on trying to figure out who they are and who their base is. A conundrum for them- with a capital K.

Thank you. Basically it is not even their own fault : they are basically mentally programmed.
