Senate GOP opens new chapter in judicial nomination wars

Republicans are just following the precedent set by obama and biden.

The Republicans are playing right into Democrat hands. The Democrats know there is no chance of getting their nominee through McConnell, but they are going to use McConnell to make the Republicans look like the obstructionists they are, and just before the election too. The timing will be impeccable. Watch! And now McConnell has stepped right into the trap. The Champagne will flow in the Oval Office. It's a gotcha moment!

Didn't you hear how good the shutdown was for the reps? This will make them even more popular!

Not comparable. McConnell is stating the Senate will not even hear a nomination. And I think the piece is wrong about the last justice confirmed in an election year.

He is just letting the world know what is going to happen.

Obama can nominate anyone he wants. There will not even be a hearing held to consider them. No lame duck is doing to appoint a supreme court justice after they have savaged the entire judicial process and abused the power of the executive. He might as well play golf the rest of the year.

Obama is going to be remembered as the most dictatorial president since Franklin Roosevelt though Roosevelt was actually an effective leader.

Correct. This will probably clunk with voters.

Maybe the Senate Republicans prefer Hillary to Trump.

I believe that is the calculation. The republican leadership would vastly prefer a Clinton nomination over any leftist knucklehead Obama would likely nominate. Clinton would be more likely to pick someone closer to the center.

In any event, they anticipate a republican win for the presidency because who would vote for a leftist after the last 7 years?
