Senate GOP opens new chapter in judicial nomination wars

Dems can cry foul all they want, their far left fringe will all cry too, but they have been just as guilty of obstructing crap in the past. *All of this bickering is understood as political bullshit by everyone except the gullible* Imo the VAST majority of Americans would agree to have the next President nominate for SCOTUS and as much as they (Dems) yell it from the roof tops of the MSM it's a non-issue. There's no government shut down, no ones going hungry, grandma gets her checks.

This next Election will seal the fate and anchor the direction, good or bad, for the USA for decades to come. The Voters understand this, let them decide.

I think McConnell has this right. Say no way it's happening and then shut up about it. media will move on to something else. If Obama nominates someone, just ignore it. He has forfeited any right to cooperation or respect from the congress. Having made his bed, now he gets to recline in it.

Biden, Schumer, et al are total hypocrites. Moreover, the democrats are responsible for politicizing court nominations. It didn't even begin with Bork, as widely reported. They blocked a couple of Nixon's nominations on bogus grounds.

Like on other issues, the republicans face an asymetrical threat here. Republicans nominate guys like Roberts, who are obsessed with arcane notions of federalism and separation of powers. Democrats nominate left wing activists, who see the Court as a way to force through policies that lack enough support to get enacted through normal democratic means, eg gay marriage and abortion. The risks of allowing even a nominally "moderate' Obama appointment are far too great. No one who would have voted republican is going to change their vote over this, that's for sure.

that is why the person the media blames the shutdown on is in second place in the presidential race and the country hates establishment candidates more than ever?

the shutdown and the republican leaders fear of it are kabuki.
there is a 70% chance McConnell is going to the extreme right now... so he can cave later.
this is all orchestrated kabuki and we simply don't yet know the end game.

my guess is that since Boehner once tried to get Scalia off the court and onto a losing Dole ticket. The establishment does not like conservative justices.

I therefore think the odds are that McConnell and Ryan will pretend to cave to media pressure in front of the election --- pretending its what they have to do to beat the democrats.

No, the shutdown that cost them the presidency.
