Senate GOP opens new chapter in judicial nomination wars

If I were Obama, I would find a far left hispanic woman, hopefully an in your face lesbian,maybe another law school dean. Watch republicans crap their pants at the idea of opposing her. They folded like cheap lawn chairs when faced with Sotomayer, Kagan and AG Loretta Lynch, even though they had principled arguments to block all three.

You think the shutdown cost Mitt Romney his job but somehow let the GOP dominate the congress elections? You don't think it may have had more to do with the 47% comment?

I don't have a black or white opinion on it, I do think Romney's 47% comment accounts for... nearly half of his loss.

But polling did indicate a measurable hit on rep favorability because of the shutdown.

If that were true, Mitt Romney, who had nothing to do with the shutdown, wouldn't have been the only one to suffer.

Biden, Schumer, et al are total hypocrites. Moreover, the democrats are responsible for politicizing court nominations. It didn't even begin with Bork, as widely reported. They blocked a couple of Nixon's nominations on bogus grounds.

Like on other issues, the republicans face an asymetrical threat here. Republicans nominate guys like Roberts, who are obsessed with arcane notions of federalism and separation of powers. Democrats nominate left wing activists, who see the Court as a way to force through policies that lack enough support to get enacted through normal democratic means, eg gay marriage and abortion. The risks of allowing even a nominally "moderate' Obama appointment are far too great. No one who would have voted republican is going to change their vote over this, that's for sure.

Triple A, I'm not going to bother to look this up but I thought that the polls showed a majority were in favor of both Gays being allowed to Marry and Pro Choice. Am I wrong about this. The Court, until Scalia's death, was majority conservative was it not? Apparently, if I'm right, even a conservative court is somewhat responsive to the will of the people on occasion.

Thank you for spelling "Milquetoast" correctly. If I were a petty person, I'd say Romney lost because he walked as though his legs were operated from a wind-up spring motor secreted away somewhere in his rigid upper body.

We don't enact laws through opinion polls. It's an even more absurd way to make judicial decisions.

When the Court takes these decisions away from We The People, they undermine democratic values and mock the Constitution.

I wouldn't have called the Court conservative. It was balanced between politicized democrats and largely originalist conservatives, with loose cannon Kennedy as the swing vote.

A name that comes up is Roberta Kaplan. Not Hispanic, but a Lesbian Jew. That gets her past the lefties. Interestingly enough she has no problem representing the financial industry helping them skate one lawsuit after another. That should please republicans. If they can get her to "identify" as black, come up with a limp, and go on a hunting trip...
