OK, so I apparently screwed it up selecting a SSD instead of a HD. This is the kind of feedback I need and appreciate.:confused:

Might you or Bol be able to look at the HD options and advise.

you can do same thing for HD.they all should be very reliable. since like mid 90's i've used probably 50+ different HD's. only one of them did fail by itself. make sure that the temperature on HD under the load is < 40C

Well radist. You certainly *can* use a 40-inch 1080p TV as your computer monitors. But I think you will get eyes fatique rather quickly. A screen that big, without the added resolution, will make display very coarse. You would need to be sitting something like 4-feet away to be comfortable. For most, the distance between our eyes and the monitors is only about 1 to 2 feet and no more. But there are some who prefer to sit far away. You judge what's best for you.



RE: Bol, I see you live in Cali from your profile. Do you happen to live in SoCal and if you do might you be able to recommend anyone to do the installation?

I used to live in SoCal but now reside in Sacramento. I know Fry's Electronics (there is one in Fountain Valley/Costa Mesa) would assemble the PC from parts for you for $100 (something like that). But that was based on buying parts from there. I am not sure if they would do it if you purchases parts from other stores. Give them a call.

but you can read reviews about HD's offered @ cyberpower on newegg(for example). the good part is that there is not so many manufacturers(Western Digital and SeaGate) and you probably have to stick with SATA 3. what's left is :

btw-Western Digital offers better 5 years warranty on some of it's products.

I have one Intel 40GB SSD myself and it has been quite reliable so far. 5 months into it, no problem. Reliability doesn't concern me. But rather I didn't seem to have been able to take advantage of the "fastness" SSD offers. In my use it is just about as fast as using a regular disk drive.

I thought you like the SSD for whatever reason. It is $100 to $200 extra with the SSD in place of the regular disk drive.

You can use a regular disk drive, with makes like Seagate (The Barracuda line) or Maxtor or Western Digital (WDC). These days, 500GB at the low end is common.


RE: backup

You always should backup your data. No matter how you trade, you always have things you want to save in the event the hard drive goes out on you even if you don't keep a lot of data. It could be the "pages" or "layouts" in your trading app that you spent hours designing. Many people start loading their family pictures, MP3 songs, their final papers, etc.. all on the hard drive and never did any backup. One day the hard drive gives an inconsistency check... boom... all pictures gone. All songs gone. All term papers gone. Going through a system restore or Windows re-installation does not give you back your data.

I don't know. It depending on your software license agreement.
