Obama tried to slam through Garland but lost because he didn't control the senate. The "McConnell Rule" is actually the Biden Rule and dates back to 1992.
But that didn't matter in 2016 when every democrat was happy to ignore what they said decades earlier to slam through Garland before Obama became a total lame duck.
It's pretty funny watching the left try to spin this to be an RNC problem. If you go back far enough you see that Harry Reid used the nuclear option to stop the 60 vote rule on executive and judiciary nominations, an entirely harebrained partisan move, and McConnell being a brilliant tactician saw this move and extended the nuclear option to supreme court candidates. Tit for tat. Congratulations on making it worse for yourself Dems.
The democrats started this. The Republicans are simply playing the game by the rules they wrote. It's hilarious watching them double over realizing they made a huge mistake changing the rules of the game before. The will of the people never mattered to the Democrats during Obama's time.
