Without the board, all the questions that might get answered by user searching the board or by users helping each other will have to go through email support, and many same/similar questions will have to be answered again and again and again.
I really hope Jerry and team could get more sleep from the deal, not the less...

I've been thinking about it. Customer Service with QT is actually going to
be better!
The fact they will be answering individual emails means they will
be dealing with each and every concern that users have with QT.
There just won't be the talking back and forth within the QT message
boards like their used to be which Jerry and Co. had to wade through
and read just to see if there was anything they had to respond to.
This means CS will improve in my opinion.
QT still rocks like usual!...
As for long term implications of the transfer of QT to Ameritrade,
time will tell the story on that one. Hopefully a good story!...
A lot of the info on the board concerned other brokers besides Ameritrade.
I guess they don't want to support the other brokers...
But they still have links to other data providers on the QT site
which is good.
They say they will still have the same development team and the
same customer support.

I keep IBcharts up fairly often. It has been rock solid and does a good job of grabbing historical intraday data without a lot of fuss.
Things to be aware of are:
1. They don't really support it. By that I mean they update the thing very infrequently. It's more of a programming demo project for them from what I have seen mentioned in the past.
2. There is a fairly substantial array of indicators but it doesn't have anything like the flexibility of Sierra Charts and it's spreadsheet links.
3. It's free and it works.
Frankly, I haven't seen a better value for the money out there in a long time.

But you are correct, a lot of info that was on that board went up in smoke...
All the tribal knowledge is still around...when users get a board up, we can quickly bring a lot of it back...I'm sure everything did not "go up in smoke". In the spirit of helping, if anyone has a critical need for something, let me know and I'll see if I have it...
There is a lot of speculation here that is really serving no purpose. TD is a brokerage, bound by SEC regulation and NASD rules, not a private mom and pop...I'm sure compliance issues are at the heart of the closure. Nothing nefarious. Obviously having to shut down the board abruptly was not something anyone expected or wanted...it is a no win for anyone involved.
The customer service has not seemed to have been compromised and has not changed at all as far as I can see. The guys worked day and night all weekend and thru the holiday...dealing with customer service issues...as always...
The board was great, and a useful forum for QT users, but it was not critical for customer service and user driven development...I'm confident a new board will be developed quickly and I'm sure it will be as positive, businesslike, and valuable as the original.
