People who think you should be able to own guns...

Quote from drcha:

I've been thinking about that too, but am not convinced that it is true. Do you think even 300 million of us with our little handheld weapons are a match for the US military? No, they can dispense with us all. Maybe the poster above has the best idea: the ballot box.

Yes, I do. Because 300 million includes members of the military.

I am willing to look at these data if anyone knows who is collecting them.

Right hand side of page. A little dated on some of the stats but overall little has changed. There are a lot of charts and footnotes so it's not nearly as long of a read as it initially appears.

Our guns are what kept Japan from invading in the '30's/40's. They knew what it would take to go house to house. I'd say it's very similar from the viewpoint of our military today.

Thank you for (1). I hope it is true. One of my concerns is that the US military is a volunteer force, and may differ from the military in other nations.

As for (2), US wars, generally speaking, may not provide examples of what the US is capable of. What the US military does and what it has the capability to do are different things. For example, you could also say that the US was defeated in Somalia, Iraq, and Afghanistan. However, one must consider that the "scorched earth" approach with massive, intentional killing of civilians is one the US has mostly avoided, at least since WWII and Japan. I am assuming that if there were a massive and violent domestic revolt, the US government might stop at nothing to control it. That is a worst case scenario, and my assumption could be wrong.

As a former Marine Officer, I can ASSURE you that 75% or more of the USMC would defect if this broken government tried to fight back an armed revolt by killing it's own people (Patriots.)

In addition, I have Family and Friends who are with different branches, and we've had this conversation more than once. The US military would damn near entirely defect if this gubment turned arms against the American people.

One of the main themes I ALWAYS hear is, "fuck that! I'm going home to be with my Family." NONE even gave a shit about getting their paychecks, or defending the government they work for.

I wouldn't want to be one of the tyrants in Washington these days...

Americans are still in charge. They just don't know it as they should.

Thanks. I feel better now.

Unless the government manages to de-legitimize the populace first, which is a typical method. And don't forget the ease with which men kill each other when the killing is depersonalized, such as that done with the push of a button.

No need to be facetious. I'm just pointing out what I've seen and heard behind the scenes. Does anyone want a revolt? NO! We The People just want our Country back from a government that has become what exactly what our Founders feared.
Reality and common sense, however, point to more of the same and worse if this government is allowed to continue the way it currently is.

The exact same government you want more and more of. What does that say about you?

Everything you don't like to hear lately is "trolling".

No, just stuff from you that is trolling. Stating you had a private conversation with Obama and for someone to disprove you is just horseshit, and you just posting it to argue (when you got caught BSing us again).
