Pelosi and Dems not informed of al-Baghdadi mission

Apparently the Turkish and Russian governments were made aware of the al-Baghdadi raid in Idlib Province.

Likely they briefed the Turks and Russians for air deconfliction. I find it totally hilarious that Nancy Pelosi and the Dem leadership were left in the dark for "security reasons".

Its hilarious and brilliant. Nancy can wander around the capitol corriders but she is going to be left out of all decisions and critical operations of the government. I think the Trump administration has decided to simply ignore Nancy Pelosi. Gotta love it.

These decisions are based on a need to know and obviously she didn't need to know. Given that she and Democrats in general have a tendency to leak everything and anything the past practices of bringing them in on such things will probably be limited moving forward. While it is breaking with protocol, who can blame him.

It's a matter of trust and the Democrat leadership has proven to be very untrustworthy. As stated, it breaks with protocol but trust has been lost between party leaders.

At the White House Sunday morning, President Trump profusely thanked Russia for its alleged involvement in the killing of Islamic State leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi. Trump said: "[The Russians] were very cooperative, they really were good... Russia treated us great. They opened up, we had to fly over certain Russia areas, Russia-held areas. Russia was great."

Russia didn’t seem to see it the same way.

The Russian Defense Ministry’s spokesman, Major General Igor Konashenkov, refuted President Trump’s statement, stating in part: “The Russian Defense Ministry has no reliable information about U.S. servicemen conducting an operation for ‘yet another’ elimination of the former Daesh leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi in the Turkish-controlled part of the Idlib de-escalation zone.”

The Russian Defense Ministry also disputed President Trump’s claim that Russia provided access to U.S. air units entering the airspace over the Idlib de-escalation zone during that mission in Syria. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov declined to provide a comment about President Trump’s announcement, directing everyone to General Konashenkov’s statement.

Kremlin-controlled Russian state media shot down President Trump’s announcement, with headlines that read: “The Russian Defense Ministry does not believe in al-Baghdadi’s liquidation.” Major General Igor Konashenkov scoffed at the changing details of the operation, with Trump adding alleged participants and various countries that supposedly took part in the raid, “each with completely contradictory details,” which Konashenkov said “raises reasonable questions and doubts about [the operation’s] veracity, not to mention success.”

Konashenkov skeptically pointed out that al-Baghdadi was already supposedly “eliminated” multiple times, with such claims being later disproven. In fact, Russia itself, as well as the Assad regime, have falsely claimed to have killed the ISIS leader multiple times.

That can also be called precedent. The House has broken protocol regarding the conduct of impeachment hearings. If I was Donald Trump I would not interact with Dems beyond what is required by the law. Protocol is out the window.

Its just so bizarre that Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer cannot be trusted with sensitive information regarding military operations because they will leak it. Wouldn't that be treason?

I don’t know why everything and I mean EVERYTHING has to be politicized. There’s no reason to notify anyone of special ops missions until they are completed.

Trump just threw that as a dig at the Dem’s. And the question was asked to politicize either the communication or lack there of between the two - so the press is partly to blame. Who asked the question?

Hats off to the men and women that took part in the mission. Job well done.

President Trump please refrain from talking crap about dead enemies. Just say our job was to take him out, and it was successful, leave it at that.

Why would you give highly sensitive classified information to a group of people that have proven they can't be trusted not to leak classified information in the past? I wouldn't have had a problem with Obama doing the same thing with the Bin Laden mission if the roles would've been reversed in the past.

You're right, I don't know if Obama let Boehner know of the Bin Laden raid. There likely isn't time to gather a bipartisan group just for optics in these situations, outside of what bipartisan team the staff involved makes. The diplomatic thing to say would be the above, and the courteous thing to do is to extend the notification to the leaders of both houses before foreign dignitaries.

There's classified and then there's classified. I'm glad the Ukranian whistle blower came forward, which isn't leaking and a giant leap from endangering troops from a leak.
