Pandemic panic preperation

people keep focusing on the death rate miss the point and are not deep thinkers.

Chikunguya....what is it? an illness like Dengue and Yellow Fever that is passed by mosquitos. Deadly? Maybe for the elderly and children with weak immune systems. But when you get it you are out on your ass deathly sick for weeks.

What happened in Dominican Republic when they had an outbreak? Many plants would have 1/3 of their work force out sick because you cannot do shit when you get it. SOme companies production came almost to a halt and faced serious issues.

Did the global economy suffer? Of course not...it was DR and these were local industries mainly.

Coronoa is spreading really fast and people are shutting down offices and plants due to fear and more now due to people being sick. If you get it, you might have 98% survival rate but 100% have to stay your ass home for weeks sick rate.

Imagine spreading to industrial areas in China at an uncontrolled rate and then hitting Europe and Asia...

It is not the deaths stupid....this thing could cripple business for several weeks and that is why the stock market sold off, not becuase of possible deaths of 1-2% of those who get it.

Wake up numbnutards
Are you serious? When was the last time China quarantined 50million+ people? You think the CPP is just not woke enough....lol

Either way at 15% ICU for infected people is horrible. That 2% stat is only if you have a health system in place. It is expected to be much higher in third world countries. We are about to find out.

In the meantime car sales in China the first half of February were off 92%.

Moving along, nothing to see here....

Yeh, there are a lot of moving parts.

The death rate is driven up in undeveloped/not much health care countries because there is no medical care for them, duh.

But the percentage calculated is also driven up by the fact that- in low or no health care areas- not many people are diagnosed or treated until they are pretty bad off- and being bad off and showing full blown symptoms is their only way of diagnosing them. If there are thousands of people out there that had mild symptoms they never even get entered into the data. And that drives up the percentage of diagnosed patients dying.

True. But as of now we don't know enough about this virus, or should I say 'lab virus cocktail' with coronavirus and HIV mixed for added flavor.

We just don't know how bad this is long term.

Seriously your post agrees with mine so not sure what you were trying to call out
Excuse me if I misread. You were comparing Chikunguna with this which I think are magnitudes of risk apart (from a contagious perspective, not sure about morbidity).

Then you misread.....I used Chikunguya as a demonstration how something with extremely low death rate can bring a local economy to a halt for a few weeks because sick people and those who cannot work for weeks bring companies to a halt. And Chikung is NOT contagious.

Now imagine Corona spreading all over industrial areas around the world and already the examples of how it is affecting economies, without any consideration to the death rate.

My point is that people claiming the Corona is nothing because of a low death rate miss the entire point of why it is scary, it is the amount of people getting sick at rapid rates and having to stay home or quarantined and how quickly it is spreading.

Damn, my sincere apologies 85. You make a great point.
