if it weren't for the nasty stat that 15% of those infected end up at the ICU.
There is still an open debate about whether the corona virus will cycle seasonally like the regular flu and begin to let up a in the northern hemisphere a bit with spring.
Even if one argues that it will most definitely not cycle like the flu because it is different than the regular seasonal flu type A/B, it will, nevertheless help to have the current seasonal flu season end because it will make diagnosis of the coronavirus easier/less difficult.

people keep focusing on the death rate miss the point and are not deep thinkers.
Chikunguya....what is it? an illness like Dengue and Yellow Fever that is passed by mosquitos. Deadly? Maybe for the elderly and children with weak immune systems. But when you get it you are out on your ass deathly sick for weeks.
What happened in Dominican Republic when they had an outbreak? Many plants would have 1/3 of their work force out sick because you cannot do shit when you get it. SOme companies production came almost to a halt and faced serious issues.
Did the global economy suffer? Of course not...it was DR and these were local industries mainly.
Coronoa is spreading really fast and people are shutting down offices and plants due to fear and more now due to people being sick. If you get it, you might have 98% survival rate but 100% have to stay your ass home for weeks sick rate.
Imagine spreading to industrial areas in China at an uncontrolled rate and then hitting Europe and Asia...
It is not the deaths stupid....this thing could cripple business for several weeks and that is why the stock market sold off, not becuase of possible deaths of 1-2% of those who get it.

EDIT: some friends were going to South Africa for a safari/vacation and almost half of them cancelled because SA warned they are having cases of Corona. I don't doubt this is happening on a large scale for travel all over the world so expect to see airlines/hotels/tourist areas take a hit financially. It is never the news it is the reaction.
