The liberal media have distorted the meaning of those numbers in an absolute sense, because what they write has little to do with truth and reality, it's just totally political-driven. As I just posted, GWB is twice as "popular" or "trusted" as the Democrat-led Congress. Therefore, in that, much more reliable, relative scale, he scores 67% - not too shabby in this day and age.

You guys don't want to understand or admit the truth... It's the third term in a row for a Republican President! Historically, this has happened very few times. Therefore, McCain HAS to distance himself from the current administration, period. Nothing to do with popularity, party direction, etc.
It's only happened once where a President served three terms, it's not George W. Bush that did it (it's Franklin D. Roosevelt), and it was only until the passage of the 22nd Amendment to the constitution that presidents were constitutionally barred from serving more than two consecutive terms.
Bush ran against Gore. Before that, Clinton served two four-year terms.
It's true that George H.W. Bush was elected President when he ran against Mondale, and that the Republicans controlled the Executive Branch for the 8 years prior under Reagan.
How this relates to George W. Bush's historically low approval ratings, I don't know.
Clinton had nearly twice the approval rating of Bush when he left office, and that was after Lewinky-Gate and the savaging he endured during that time.
