Obama goes after Staples for threatening to fire employees who work more than 25 hours

What a jackass, he was told this is coming with obamacare, and now he wants to blame the companies for it, of course now no companies will actually go on the record as to why they are limiting hours to 25 per week, they will just do it quietly to avoid threats from obama and the rest of the left wing gustapo.

President Barack Obama said "shame on them" after being asked about reports that,to dodge paying benefits under Obamacare, the office-supply retailer Staples was barring part-time workers from putting in more than 25 hours a week.

In an interview with BuzzFeed News published Wednesday, Obama said Staples should be more than able to afford to provide affordable healthcare for its workers.

"I haven't looked at Staples stock lately or what the compensation of the CEO is, but I suspect that they could well afford to treat their workers favorably and give them some basic financial security, and if they can't, then they should be willing to allow those workers to get the Affordable Care Act without cutting wages," he said.

Staples released a statement to BuzzFeed saying it was "unfortunate that the president is attacking a company that provides more than 85,000 jobs and is a major tax payer."

Earlier this year, Staples reportedly told part-time employees they could be fired for working more than 25 hours a week. The company implemented the policy to avoid paying benefits under the Affordable Care Act, according to BuzzFeed.

The healthcare law mandates that employees who work more than 30 hours a week receive healthcare. Staples could be fined $3,000 per employee if it does not comply with the law.

Some workers said their hours had been cut dramatically since Staples implemented the new policy. Though the retailer denied the policy was a result of the Affordable Care Act, some workers blamed Obama for the change. In his interview with BuzzFeed, Obama panned the "excuse" for the reported policy shift.

"When I hear large corporations that make billions of dollars in profits trying to blame our interest in providing health insurance as an excuse for cutting back workers' wages," he told BuzzFeed, "shame on them."

Ok, so the ACA is not to blame.

LOL.
Yeah, its just a coincidence that this letter went out now when the law takes effect, the reason they are saying that is because they know nazis like obama will try to hurt their business if they find out they are trying to avoid paying for obamacare.

.........She started working at Staples around the same time the office-supply chain was making headlines by forbidding its part-time employees from working more than 25 hours a week. The rules, rolled out in the lead-up to the Affordable Care Act, were seen by many staff members as an effort by the company to avoid paying benefits to “full-time” employees — classified under the law as anyone working more than 30 hours a week.

But for most of 2014, the rules didn’t really affect Alice or her colleagues, who regularly exceeded the threshold and were still considered part-time. That all changed this year, though, as the employer mandate kicked in; if Staples doesn’t pay benefits for people working more than 30 hours a week, it could face up to $3,000 in penalties per person.

Now, Alice is working far fewer hours — and if she clocks above 25, she may be fired...............

No doubt the coming into force of the ACA has prompted the clarification. Still, Staples admits the policy is a decade old.

"he was told this is coming with obamacare, and now he wants to blame the companies for it" = fail.

This is a perfect example of an evil corporation trying to force Obama to take responsibility for the utterly predictable (and legal) negative effect of his signature legislation. They should know by now that he only takes credit for positive achievements.

Perhaps Obama could issue an executive order and toss the CEO in federal prison, kind of like they did that video maker who "caused" Benghazi.

true... they closed a bunch of stores last year... so big govt loving progressives see it as their job to finish them off and risk putting 85,000 people out of work... by raising taxes, pushing extra health care costs and money sucking regulations on to them and raising the minimum wages.

then we can get Krugman and other leftist propagandists with media distribution to say taxes and govt regulation don't kill jobs and the economy... what we need is for the govt to spend and print more.

the lunacy of the big govt crap is sick. are all you lefties really thinking a crony run economy is best? didn't we all see what happened in the eastern block and the USSR... that was not good for the environment or the people.

I bet online retail is killing Staples' margins and volume.
