Pfizer says 3 shots and your good to go against omicron. While S. Africa reports breakthrough infections in persons with 2 shots.

I heard this morning while driving that omicron reduces vaccine efficacy 40x in S Africa but boosters increase efficacy 35x (can’t remember exact numbers) so initial take is with boosters omicron is a wash.

You are posting a Kentucky study from May–June 2021. The very strongest time of antibody protections, just before they began to wane.

The CDC study was even more cherry picked and does not show that vaccine immunity is stronger regardless of the headline.

Experts identify potential bias in CDC natural immunity study

Despite the conclusion one might draw from Walensky’s tweet, the CDC study isn’t designed to answer the question of whether vaccine immunity or natural immunity is superior. Harvard Medical School professor Martin Kulldorff, an epidemiologist and biostatistician who now serves as senior scientific director of Brownstone Institute, writes that the study instead answers the question of “whether vaccination or Covid recovery is more related to Covid hospitalization or if it is more related to other respiratory type hospitalizations."
...

There is both a relationship between being vaccinated/recovered and Covid hospitalization and a relationship between being vaccinated/recovered and non-Covid hospitalization,” Kulldorff continues. “Rather than evaluate the first one, which is of intense interest for health policy, the CDC study evaluates the contrast between the two, which is not particularly interesting.

The CDC study also appears to conflict with a major Israeli study from August. That study showed unvaccinated people with natural immunity had far greater protection than vaccinated people without natural immunity. Specifically, the vaccinated group was 13 times more likely to experience a future infection and 27 times more likely to experience a symptomatic future infection.

Why don't you take a closer look at the CDC study which demonstrates very clearly that Covid vaccination provides over 5 times the protection of a prior infection. This is a large-scale study which breaks down the information by age, gender race, month, times since vaccination or previous infection, and vaccine type (Pfizerr/Moderna). The data is conclusive and obviously demonstrates that "natural immunity" is far inferior to Covid vaccination.

Laboratory-Confirmed COVID-19 Among Adults Hospitalized with COVID-19–Like Illness with Infection-Induced or mRNA Vaccine-Induced SARS-CoV-2 Immunity — Nine States, January–September 2021

What is already known about this topic?

Previous infection with SARS-CoV-2 or COVID-19 vaccination can provide immunity and protection against subsequent SARS-CoV-2 infection and illness.

What is added by this report?

Among COVID-19–like illness hospitalizations among adults aged ≥18 years whose previous infection or vaccination occurred 90–179 days earlier, the adjusted odds of laboratory-confirmed COVID-19 among unvaccinated adults with previous SARS-CoV-2 infection were 5.49-fold higher than the odds among fully vaccinated recipients of an mRNA COVID-19 vaccine who had no previous documented infection (95% confidence interval = 2.75–10.99).

What are the implications for public health practice?

All eligible persons should be vaccinated against COVID-19 as soon as possible, including unvaccinated persons previously infected with SARS-CoV-2.

The groupings in the study were not designed to compare natural immunity to vaccination conferred immunity.

Read it yourself, the initial grouping is screwy.

With Delta -- South Africa had 24% of their hospitalized patients in ICU. Having only 8% in ICU with Omicron is an improvement and may show that Omicron is less severe than Delta.

Only 8% of hospitalised Covid patients in South Africa's Omicron ground zero now get admitted to ICU which is just a THIRD of level seen during Delta wave, fuelling hopes that the super-mutant variant IS milder
  • EXCLUSIVE: Official figures show 139 patients were in ICU in South Africa's epicentre Gauteng on Monday
  • For comparison, at the same point in the Delta wave the province had 393 patients in the emergency wards
  • British experts said immunity from vaccines and past infection was likely holding up against Omicron
  • They also did not rule out the possibility that the mutant strain could be less virulent than first feared
