Multi Monitor Video Card

I'm using an NVIDIA GEFORCE 7300 GS in a PCIE x16 slot(I have 1 more x16 and 3 x1's available) and have 2 monitors connected to it. What should my next card be for connecting 2 more monitors?

is there any ways I could use the MBO's(GA-M55SLI-S4) on board NVIDIA® nForce4 SLI for a 3rd. monitor already?

Your post is confusing. I've never seen a mobo with "2x16 + 3x1" slots. Only mid-high end mobos have even 2, x16 slots, you you also mention "onboard"... higher end mobos do not have "onboard video".

What computer brand and model do you have?
 
you're right, no onboard video, but here are the slots(had never looked under the hood :) lol):

OK... you've got a fairly high end mobo... Theoretically, any video card you can fit into a mobo slot should work... except for ones which are not compatible with the mobo or the other card(s).

The least expensive alternative would be adding a compatible Nvidia GeForce PCI card. Fx5200 would likely work. It has been made in several variations, so be sure the card you get will run the monitors you want.

Or, you could sell your 7300 on eBay (should get $25-$30 for it), and use Nvidia Quadro NVS cards... your mobo would run 2, 285x16s + other combinations.

I was thinking of NVIDIA Quadro FX37, is this the same as the one you have mentioned? also I can keep the 7300 and use it for the future when need to add 2 more monitors, does that work?

do the Quadros run 4 monitors per card?

I'm not sure. Isn't the FX37 from their high-end graphics line? Like for 3D and CAD/CAM? Those might not be compatible.

There is nothing to be gained from a trading perspective by having "graphics card overkill".

The NVS 440 is a quad port card. However, you can save some money by using 2, dualheads. Quads are expensive.

FWIW... "quadro" has nothing to do with the number 4

Quadro is the name of the GPU (Graphics Processor Unit), it is not a reference to the number of video output.
 
So I guess the best choice would be hanging on to the one I have and adding one of the below. The question remains would they then be compatible?


1- NVIDIA GEFORCE 7300GS+ NVIDIA Quadro NVS 290
OR
2- NVIDIA GEFORCE 7300GS + NVIDIA Quadro NVS 285

No way to know without trying. The 7300 is from their "gamer" line of cards, the 285 is from their "workstation" line. Each driver is different.

Suggest you go with both cards being from the same "line". If you try one of each, have a backup or image of your hard drive. Conflicting video drivers can really make a mess of your system.

FWIW... last summer I got a new computer which had a 7300 GS video card. I immediately sold it on eBay and replaced it with a 285x16 and 280 PCI... had to use that combo to keep my TV Tuner card happy.

Is LINUX a viable alternative for trading software. Can it be made to work? I hate inefficient use of resources and have an uneasy feeling that VISTA is FULL OF IT!
