many religious meat eaters don't care about killing animals

damir after reading a few things on the net I agree with you.

I believe christianity sprang from the Jewish religion and its prophecies but a Jew probably does not. I will no longer refer to Judeo -Christian as if it were one tradition.

I apologize if I offended anybody by the above. In fact I am not trying to offend anybody just trying to get to the facts.

strongly disagree. meat production is heavily subsidized by federal land policies and there absolutely should be some kind of tax on meat or more rational use-fee on the land.

that's just basic capitalism: you have to pay for what you use.

animal torture is wrong going all the way back to the first edition of Torah. animal use is ok - within guidelines - but torture is not.

I think everybody would agree with you...it's the differnece on guidelines thta's probably at isse.

thanks for the kind response. i wasn't offended - it's a very common phrase - but most of the time it just isn't accurate. judaism, islam and christianity may all share the same abrahamic root, but i doubt many would refer to christo-islamo-jewish principles. ;-)

Wait a second......what if a guy is not subsidized? he raises cattle and sells it...somebody has to pay more for eating habits???...what about eggs? what about milk?....fish?...spam?

if it involves "free" consumption of non-private property, yes in all cases. if it's all private, than no. most - if not all - organic meat/produce is done without benefit of federal lands etc - and guess what - it's more expensive! :-)

level the playing field.

the quickest way to stop ingesting antibiotics with your meat and growth hormones with our cheese is to get rid of the subsidies that allow such production to undercut the price of healthier products. the current rules on use of federal grazing lands alone is a subsidy of roughly 1/3 the final cost of the product.

that's socialism at its worst: not only a subsidy, but a subsidy that prices a superior, healthier alternative out of the market.

If we level the playing field we would have special taxes on everything....You don't have a problem wiht the current SIN taxes??? Isn;t that the government in a sense deciding that it is morally wrong for us to drink or smoke?????gamble?????....so now you want the government to decide what is best for us to eat???? you don;t think this is a socialistic view? what if the government starts taxing HEAVY any food with SUGAR??? Sugar farms supposedly do huge harm to the environment...so cookies, ice cream, candy bars, ect...will have an environmental TAX put on them??? ...and you want OUR government, the bureaucratic pork belly plan machine to administer this??? Geez...you people are scary...i was being factitious about a tax on meat and abortions .

how many ways can i say this: i want to get rid of existing subsidies. by subsidizing the government IS ALREADY telling us what we should be eating. i want that to stop. you apparently to not.

it is your attitude, not mine, that is more socialist.

Im not for the subsidies either....those are done for pork belly congressmen to get votes.....but just because you end the subsidies does not mean you have to put a tax on meat eaters or any other food.....hwo do the two relate? strongest and most efficient farmer wins...but why a tax on consumption?
