So -- answer one question - "Should unproven medical remedies be continually promoted and hyped by politicians?"

The stance of the mainstream medical community (and myself) is that hydroxychloroquine should be prescribed by medical professionals to COVID-19 patients in hospitals during this emergency situation and proper studies performed regarding the effectiveness of results. These tests are currently underway in New York and other locations. So far the results do not appear to be promising (less than a week in based on unverified medical commentary) but there at least needs to be another month of testing to provide a sizable sample of patients with full results.

Guidance for treatment for COVID-19 should be driven by the medical community -- not politicians and media pitch-men.

I will note the most effective therapy for severely ill COVID-19 patients to date appears to be laying them on their stomachs rather than their backs.
 
why are you saying the tests do not appear to be promising.
i have seen no actual results from New York and I did a search earlier today.

every negative headline I saw was spin from an establishment or lefty source like salon and the quotes were from doctors talking about hydroxy alone or the were just poking holes in the previous studies. Which is fine, we need to know the limitations...

but, to be balanced ... the doctors who are saying it works are administering it with something else like a zpak.
And Cuomo did tell us some doctors were saying the results in NY are promising.

So if yo have anything saying Hydoxy and a zpak are not working I would like to read it.

Yeh, the studies are all over the place and the methodologies are all over the place too.

Those who promote hydroxy are actually promoting a regimen which includes hydroxy plus azythromycin plus zinc at 225 mg. But I don't see the azythromycin in some studies and I don't see the zinc being added in others. The whole idea behind the proposed regimen is that the hydroxy acts as an ionophore to transfer the zinc ion through the cell membrane and on to the receptor site where the virus would like to attach its sorry arse if the zinc were not already there. So the studies need to be more than just about the hydroxy.

And then there are reports about how a swedish study pooped out but they were missing some of the "ingredients" and they reported that they started using chloroquine because they ran out of hydrochloroquine which is a derivative but a different animal. And I dont think they had zinc in the treatment either.

As I have said before, my hopes are quite bounded. I just want to see if there is an edge there because most treatments for serious conditions involve stacking together little edges until you have a meaningful edge. So it is not a show stopper for me if it is not how some are hyping it.

Also some of the studies determine success based on not dying, others on not needing to be intubated and some base on how long there was a measurable viral load before the drug cleared it. But viral presence is not necessarily the meaningful measure. You could - for example- have a seasonal flu that is a bitch and wont go away for weeks but nevertheless it never reached a critical level- which is possible with Covid too. Any drug that keeps covid from progressing to critical would be valuable even if it did not clear the virus from your system for weeks. And some of the tests differ too because they are picking viral shedding rather than live virus which can go on for weeks.

Anyway. Researchers need to tighten up on what needs to researched and agree upon the parameters and then see what's what. Too much variation between studies right now.

He also found the drug protocol to be very safe for patients with low side effects, and that there was a correlation with the amount of hydroxychloroquine found in the blood and success rates.
