Looks like North Carolina is about to repeal HB2

The gaynazis were not in a frenzy because of loss of local control over water districts.

Then the state assembly Republicans should not be in such a huff today not to repeal HB2 because they want the Charlotte City Council to hand over control of the airport board to the assembly. I guess the "anti-gaynazis" are in a frenzy over something that has nothing to do with restrooms today.

Limiting the jurisdiction of local courts is a perfectly valid legislative prerogative. Prevailing plaintiffs get their legal bills paid in federal civil rights cases. I see no reason filing in federal court should be more expensive. Why would the state want to encourage cases that are typically legal extortion? Federal courts have vastly more experience in this type of case and would be the venue of choice for most plaintiffs anyway.

The cost of filing cases and retaining lawyers in federal court is much more expensive than in state court. Go look it up.

Your rights to sue for discrimination in state court is a well established legal principle; the state assembly has no right to interfere with it. The good news is this part of HB2 is likely to be overturned in court during 2017 if the assembly takes no action today.

"Gaynazi" is a term I've not heard before. Is that a reference to evangelical christians, the kind that sends missionaries to Africa and incites them to drop the hammer on gays?

Lawyers charge by the hour. Not by the court. The vast majority of discrimination cases are filed in federal courts. Go look it up.

The rate per hour for lawyers who handle federal cases is more than for state level cases. Especially since you have to travel either many counties (or states) away to handle the court appearances generally.

The majority of discrimination cases are not filed in federal court. In fact the number is very low compared to state courts Most discrimination cases go through state courts first before coming anywhere near a federal court. Go look it up.

Also discrimination cases tend to fare poorly in federal court which is an added incentive to file in state rather than federal court.

It strikes me that the economic impact of these boycotts by such moral paragons as the NBA and Bruce Springsteen is way overstated. It's not like the money people would have spent on a concert is burnt. So they spend it on something else. BFD.

A few people, eg realtors, may be hurt when a company like Paypal decides not to build there, but the only effect it has on most is less traffic, less taxes for new schools, etc and less newcomers eager to tell people how to run their affairs.

If liberals really cared about the state's finances and education system, they would be pushing for immigration enforcement. The invasion of Hispanics is costing the state bigtime.

The economic impact to North Carolina has been significant. The boycott from concerts and sporting events hurts but is not a huge issue since these are one time events. The real problem is the companies that are either not coming to North Carolina, leaving North Carolina, or not expanding in North Carolina. These represent jobs and taxes which accumulate 365 days per year - their loss with expanding impact through communities represent a significant economic loss to our state.

Of course, if all the companies had not relocated to North Carolina over the past 50 years providing high-paying jobs -- then the state would have remained a rural, non-educated, dismal, back-water pigsty that would make poverty-stricken Applachia appear to be a paradise comparatively. Fortunately we had a generation of politicians in North Carolina who believed that bring jobs and companies to our state was important for the long term prosperity of the entire population.

The Republican legislators from rural counties in our state are firmly against doing anything in North Carolina to stop illegal immigration. Most of the farm workers in their counties are illegal immigrants and the large industrial farmers that provide them with significant campaign contributions would be quite upset if the Republican legislators proposed any type of immigration enforcement. However if these Republicans really cared about the state's finances and education system, they would be pushing for immigration enforcement.
