This is evidenced by the fact that in '08 Rush was bent on stopping McCain from getting the nomination. Epic Fail!!
Now in '12 he was bent on stopping Romney, until this week after Romney was the first guy ever to win both of first two states in an open primary, and polls showed him with a heavy lead in SC, FL, and NV.
Fact is that there are only so many far right conservatives in this country and they don't decide things. Most people are a bit more moderate.
