iPhone 6 plus or Galaxy S5- help me decide

Have been ready to pull the trigger on two new iPhone 6 plus for my Son and myself, but had found that the galaxy s5 (thanks Convexx), has a wicked sound card, and am told it's water resistant, and pretty durable. The S5 active model, I thought would be all me, but some you tubers are saying it's not the "everything phone," meaning not necessarily drop proof, and not necessarily completely water resistant. Can always put a case on the iPhone 6 plus, but am trying to keep it from too much bulk. Already an iPhone user, as is my Son.

Like the new otter box case. Can put cash, cards, etc., in it. Pretty cool:

Besides talking on the silly thing, texting, surfing net, email, taking pics and videos, music while training with weights, biking, etc., would be all day listing rest of uses. Ideas and opinions welcome.
 
Don't go with the Otterbox. They flex a ton and it will drive you nuts to hear the case squeaking. Pelican ProGear. ZERO flex.

Second, get a Bodyguardz tempered glass screen protector. It is far less "tacky" feeling than the standard Gorilla glass. "Pure" model.

The main differences are UI customization and screen type. The Samsung used an AMOLED display. Indoors it's simply a better display on viewing angles and color. No comparison. Outdoors the IPS LCD on the iPhone is better. I chose the Samsung due to the AMOLED and the iPhone 5S did not impress me.

The UI on the iOS is not built for multitasking. If you want to use mods and really get into the OS then go with Android. The Android will tell you exactly where the bottlenecks are; whether you can power-save and still run a lot of apps, etc. It simply multitasks better.

For most people the iPhone 6 Plus is the best-bet. More apps. Apps are installed automatically from the cloud (if you choose) if you have another iOS device.

I run a matte screen protector under the Pelican Pro case to increase visibility in bright sunlight. It essentially makes it a draw on outdoor viewing.

The 5.5" screen and pixel-density makes me want an IP6Plus. I will buy one to compare to my S5 Active. I have a dormant sim so I can run both phones. I also have two iPad Airs, so the apps are a plus.

For me, the screen-dimensions and pixel-density are most important. I probably would have waited for the IP6P had I known it was coming.

I'm partial to the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 (or the new 4). The specs are off the charts, the battery life is incredible, and the multi-tasking and troubleshooting capabilities are great. Oh, and it's paper thin too so it's not bulky in your pocket (I don't use a case). Some people freak out over the size but I don't understand that. I'm not even a big guy and I still like the size of the note in my hands. I don't even use an iPad any more because the note is big enough that I can read ebooks on it. I'm not a big gamer but it's great for that too according to my 8-year old son. :D

Yeah, I should've gone with a phablet instead of two cell contracts; S5 and iPad Air. The Note 4 is great if you're mostly a user of data (rather than making a lot of calls).

The last car I bought, I spent less than ten minutes researching vs the countless hours on this, lol! I pulled up your post at att this afternoon, and absolutely no question the Samsung s5 active was what fits everything I was looking for, and then some. Problem was, they only had one, and it was camouflage on the back. Their other stores in my area, the same. Camouflage? Anyhow, that's a damn nice phone! And mil spec I doubt I'll ever need, but cool I guess lol.

Since I don't buy this afternoon (am buying Son the i6p), Ive got time to at least look at the phone my Son's getting, amd decide if it's that over the top to keep me using one. Had one forever, and to be candid, I'm not a fan at all. I use only a handful of apps, and my son admits to only using twenty. This i6p had better wow me as I'm overly impressed with Samsung. As for the i6p, ordered the pelican case for the one my son will have. That case looks like quality, and MUCH nicer than the otter box. In fact, there looks to be no comparison. He's sold on the iPhone, but I'm not. Like I said, the iPhone needs to wow me after checking out the Samsung products. Thanks for the advice! My Son loved that case as well.

Came in a little bit ago from my designated driver gig with friends, lol. Anyhow, I checked out a note 3 a gal had. That phone is a bad ass as well as the S5 active I was going to get today. And not too big at all. I put it in my pocket, and it "fit" perfect. In hands, is great. I actually like a bigger phone. And damn, she could text like a machine gun with that thing! Very impressive! And no, I wouldn't use a case on the note 3 either. Too much bulk. It's right the way it is. Pretty tough too. Tough choice as I do like the note 3! And as stated above, aapl had better have some stunner for me to break away from the Samsung S5a, or yours. How does it sound with earbuds?

It sounds great but that's mainly a function of the buds I'm using. You can have the greatest audio source in the world, but if the buds suck, then the sound is still going to be awful.

As the level of background voices goes up, the number of interpreted errors goes up. If the background sound is just engine noise while driving or some other type of low-level hum, then it still works great. But if you are listening to talk radio in the background while you're speaking a text message, the interpreter will really mangle your sentence.
 
I use the lifeproof case for the iphone 5s. My first lifeproof case, I lost the waterproof phone attachment. Wrote to the company to buy a new one, rather than sell me a new cord, they sent me an entire new case and another cord attachment. Great customer service!

My 12 and 14 year old sons both have lifeproofs on their iPhones, and my 14 month old daughter plays with my phone in the case and I have no fear of damage. One phone ended up in the snow for several days and was as good as new when found.

I use my phone for underwater pictures when snorkeling and am not easy on phones in everyday life. Never a problem. Very happy with lifeproof.
However, I find voice quality often lacking due go the waterproof seals on the microphone. You can use a headset to fix this --- I use another handset for voice to avoid the issue or Bluetooth in the car.
