IB backfill is terrible!

All threads regarding these TWS flat bars should not really have existed. I use to get regular bulletins on TWS then after one of the releases I realized they are not there any more. Traders should be immediately notified of an issue like this via the TWS bulletin and very regularly updated on it. This was a major problem.

So why did the bulletin vanish? Most traders probably have TWS tucked in the corner most likely off to the right of their charting software so they can see the quotes, etc next to the most recent price on the chart (reduces eye movement). No TWS release should shove the bulletin notice off the screen. No TWS release should shove anything off the screen. Anything new should be hidden away and the trader is forced to decide where to place it on the tool bar (or whatever) if they choose to use this new feature. If for some reason the TWS developers feel a new feature needs to go on a tool bar they should give a warning of this.

So I guess it is wise to to start a set of historic screen snap shots now with a release number record somewhere to double check to see if anything is missing when a new release goes in.

Time for an IB ticket or a feature vote.

Maybe this whole thread would not exist if IB better communicated to their customers. I have had many smaller issues with them, and every time the procedure was the same

They first blame everybody else:

- Several times I was asked to downgrade my JAVA. which of course had no impact on the problems.
- When the server connection failed, they blamed my DSL provider, which of course was not the reason.
- Several times I had to change the configuration of my PC, which was always unnecessary.
- Bugs are easily forgotten, as all their tickets are automatically closed after some time.

If they finally acknowledge that they have a problem, they only communicate half of the truth (this time a release change was to disguise hardware problems).

I guess that blaming the supplier means that
- either there was a hardware failure without appropriate backup, (backfill is certainly not the most critical item )
- or the lead time for a necessary capacity expansion of the backfill servers had been underestimated

Why not tell customers that due to hardware problems the backfil for GLOBEX and NYMEX would not work for about 2 weeks.

The main problem is lack of credibility and uncertainty. Support tells us fairy tales and we do not know what will happen next.

Objectively IB is not the worst of all brokers, backfill is cheap and somehow unreliable, but communication to customers can certainly be improved .

IB routinely handles much more complex tasks with ease.

Backfilling this data is trivial.

Must be some other reason for the problems. A plot?

I hear ya. Something does in fact smell very fishy. For one thing, I have had no problem whatsoever with IB until 2 weeks ago when the market went down the toilet.

But did you know that backfill works once the Globex kicks in (16:15 EST)? Why is it that you cannot backfill ES during RTH but you can in AH? That doesn't make sense.
 
yes a plot against all small wanna-be traders, LOL ;-)

You guys simply dont generate enough commission. All those who generate >10k per month did not experience any backfill issues ;-)

Wherever your quote is taken from, you are so right!!! This is rediculous, sounds like some teenager get-together and wining about mistreatment by their teacher, makes one really think. But after all its easiest to blame everyone but oneself.

Of course I did not expect anything else than now having all developers jumping on the bandwaggon as they have used IBs backfill and real-data feed FOR FREE FOR YEARS and now suddenly realize that quality and reliability costs money. They still have not fathomed that IB is not in the business to provide ANY access to real-time nor back-data, its merily a SERVICE. If people are not happy with the added FREE service then they should leave or switch but otherwise they should realize that what they enjoyed for years was free of charge and now stopped working for 2-3 weeks, whats the big deal you wankers????
