Hungary PM: No Compromise on Migration, Protecting Christian Culture

. I think Taoism if fairly devoid of empathy in its teachings.

I guess that is true if you think Lao Tzu was not a Daoist.

otherwise....

The sage has no concern for himself, but makes the concerns of others his own.

[Tao Te Ching chapter 49]

People turn their eyes and ears to him (the sage), and the sage cares for them like his own children.

[Tao Te Ching chapter 49]

See others as yourself. See families as your family. See towns as your town. See countries as your country. See worlds as your world.

[Tao Te Ching chapter 54]

I can’t disagree that morality is not dependent on religion but I do disagree with the idea that religion is meaningless without empathy. Religion can be almost anything. I think Taoism if fairly devoid of empathy in its teachings.
I'm not sufficiently familiar with Taoism to comment on it. I meant religion as it relates to civility, decency, and personal conduct towards others. Without empathy, religion is weaponized to suit the user's purpose; it's just another useful tool to a selfish end.

You may take from the Tao what you want, there will always be more.

The teachings you sight are about being consistent in your approach to all people, whether they are good people or bad people. It is not about empathy for others but authentic in your relationships. Give no cause to offend and you will not be offended.

Study and reflect upon what has been offered up to you.

You are welcome.

I’m not quite sure religion has much empathy. Look at the teachings of Jesus, they are consequential. He said openly he did not bring a lamb but a sword and the meek shall inherit the earth whereas the chances of a wealthy person going to heaven are equal to camel going through the eye of a needle.

Good for the sake of good is not an actual theme I’m familiar with even though we like to pretend that those are the teachings around Christmas time.
