I didn't search very long but I found an interview where Simons mentioned that he started out hiring people who knew nothing about finance. He says it just after the 33:00 mark on the video below. He never said that they never hired traders with a finance background later down the road though. But when I read the two books mentioned earlier in this thread it gave the same the same impression that the people who were designing trading strategies were trained math and computer scientists.The current CEO wrote a book. There is a quote to the effect of:
“we had an office in NYC with lawyers, accountants and business professionals and every day they proved to me that all the brains werent in white plains”
