Quote from omegapoint:
Pretty much what I tell my brother in law who's a minister of a small congregation of christians. "But they were primitive people" I try to tell him. Can't very well expect him to just drop everything and change his life. He tells me the Bible ought to be interpreted metaphorically which I still have problems with. His church does alot of good works around communities with feeding
down on their luck people who's kids died and houses burned down etc. Decent people to be sure so I'm not going to denigrate them for their beliefs. Those things can be done w/o the baggage and onto more progressive pursuits that add to civilization. Even w/o religion I doubt all of a sudden the population of Earth are going to become PHD's and rescue Africa from poverty and solve all our problems maybe at least not contribute to them.
Quote from Free Thinker:
we accept the scientific world view because it answers the question we are faced with. science is the application of reason to questions.
Quote from Kassz007:
You always try to convince us that the universe appears designed, yet nobody has refuted this fact. But the appearance of design does not mean the universe was designed by a creator. This is not evidence, despite the fact that you claim it to be. Appearances can be deceiving.
Things boil down to whatever might be wrong is inevitably only going to be found out by the scientific method, which doesn't merely rest on ideas of fanciful sky beasts.Quote from Lucrum:
That's certainly true enough. Of course they sometimes find out later what they considered to be fact was wrong all along too.
Not to even mention there are plenty of things science doesn't even know to begin with.
Quote from Kassz007:
A cross-dressing male makes himself look like a woman. This man APPEARS to be a woman. This is not evidence that the man is in fact a woman. Appearance is not evidence.
