O-I Glass raises Q2 adjusted earnings per share guidance

  • O-I Glass (NYSE:OI) on Tuesday said it now expected its Q2 adjusted earnings to exceed its previous guidance range.
  • The producer of glass bottles and jars now anticipates Q2 adj. EPS to exceed $0.65, compared to its previous expected range of $0.55–$0.60.
  • Theconsensus EPS estimatesfor Q2 is $0.58.
  • "The second quarter is progressing very well... Glass container shipments (in tons) are up approximately one percent quarter-to-date through May, which is consistent with our expectations of low, single digit growth," said OI CEO Andres Lopez.
  • O-I Glass stock +1.8% to $17.28 in aftermarket trading.

Apple seals unique deal for Brad Pitt Formula 1 movie - report

A major Formula 1 feature film from Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) features unique deal aspects that may point a way forward for movie theaters, streaming companies and Hollywood's various stakeholders to coexist,The Hollywood Reporter confirmed.

Apple (AAPL) had been closing in on a deal for the racing film since January - outrunning rival bidders in Paramount (PARA) (PARAA), Amazon.com (AMZN), MGM, Sony (SONY), Universal (CMCSA), and Netflix (NFLX) - and the project has gotten juicier along the way, with Brad Pitt set to star as an experienced racer coming out of retirement to mentor a younger driver, and Joseph Kosinski to direct fresh off helming an unqualified success story in Top Gun: Maverick.

Kosinski will work with a number of folks from the Maverick team, including writer Ehren Kruger and producer Jerry Bruckheimer Films, according to the report.

And key to the deal was theatrical distribution - but rather than a token or day-and-date release, the movie would have an exclusive global window of at least 30 days (and perhaps up to 60 days) before heading to Apple TV+ (AAPL),THR said.

The deal also reportedly sees Apple and the filmmakers splitting the big-screen take 50/50 - essentially paying the creative team three ways, via upfront fees, hefty buyout fees, and theatrical back-end. And that might signal that whatever size the film, theatrical and streaming are both here to stay,THR noted.

A major theatrical release would be a new milestone for Apple, whose efforts so far in that area have been small-scale awards-focused outings.

Meanwhile in Formula 1 (NASDAQ:FWONA) media news, Netflix (NFLX) is reportedly in the hunt for its first live sports coverage, competing against ESPN, Comcast and Amazon for rights to broadcast races.

I watched Asian Bloomberg because I am home alone. I learned some stuff.

This great re opening... it's open but tech orders are not there. America is over stuffed- the tech channels have over ordered and are now sitting on big inventory and future orders have been scaled back. There really is not much to ship...

We are going to have a classic inventory correction... but when? These tech names seem vulnerable.

The analyst now expects Intel to negatively pre-announce or miss Q2 guidance and he lowered estimates accordingly. The bear case for Intel is taking shape earlier than expected, says Danely, who keeps a Neutral rating on the shares with a $45 price target.

Target guidance cut bad for retail industry, says at Citi 05:40 TGT, GPS, PLCE, CRI, HBI, LEVI, KSS, M Citi analyst Paul Lejuez lowered the firm's price target on Target (TGT) to $184 from $188 and keeps a Buy rating on the shares. The company once again reduced its outlook based on a deteriorating selling environment in discretionary items, requiring more markdowns to move through inventory to help get more clean for the second half of the year, Lejuez tells investors in a research note. While "clearly a negative" for Target, this is a bad development for the retail industry generally, particularly those that play in categories where Target is most over-inventoried, which are seemingly home and apparel, says the analyst. He believes the news is most bad for Gap's (GPS) Old Navy, Children's Place (PLCE), Carter's (CRI), Hanesbrands (HBI), Levi Strauss (LEVI), Kohl's (KSS) and Macy's (M).
