Not even close to being true. This is as bogus as the "water bag" myth.
IN FACT, *controlled* demo *requires a careful timing of the different charges to control the fall of the building. You remove particular braces/beams/columns with the early charges, wait for the building mass to pivot inward (or whatever direction you have designed for) and then set off the other charges (timed as needed) to keep the mass moving in the desired direction.
