favorite guitar solos

For all you guitarfans, youtube.com is your site. Beside the original great players, there are homevideos from unknown guys, playing the great songs almost like it is on the records. Simply amazing.

I agree, the analogy is a little tilted but I think the message gets across just the same.

Keywords being music and fluff. And lets add another...soul.

Let's try another one of my crummy analogies: Neil Peart, probably one of the greatest technical rock drummers of all time. Which would you rather rub uglies with your oldlady to, Rush or The Rolling Stones.

Gett'in down with your honeysuckle? Who would you (woops, make that the honeysuckle) prefer to get oiled up with playing in the background: Malmshtink or SRV??

I'll take SRV! I was speaking purely from a technical/ theory knowledge standpoint. Malmsteen can outplay any blues or pentatonic player at their own stuff. SRV, or any other blues player for that matter, couldn't imagine attempting "Malmshtink's " solo's. He and his like are the only players I find challenging to play. He'll make you a much better player instead of copying the same 5 note blues scale that's repeated over and over in typical blues/rock guitarists.

Yeah, practicing to those guys can definitely improve your chops. It's good to have musicians like that pushing the envelope and really, I'm not against their style of play at all. It's the self-aggrandizement that bothers me.

Man, so far this is the stupidest post on this thread. It is called a concert video (I am sure you haven't seen any yet in your life) and they try to be (yes, surprize!!) THEMSELVES!!!

Nothing against Clapton but all those 3 are way better than Clapton.

Anyway, now that I let out of a little steam, let's mention Vinnie Moore. I once attended a guitarclinic and he was very nice and down to Earth, not to mention that gave a "private concert" to all 30-40 of us in the guitarshop. He is right there with the above mentioned 3 in musicality, technicality and songwriting ability.

One more thing about Yngwie: in the concert there was a guy who had nothing else to do but replacing his picks on the mikestand, because he kept throwing them away. I am sure fans like to get one of those, but it got old after a while...

True quote concerning Clapton. I agree w/ the Vinnie Moore opinion as well, he's a brilliant player. Is he still in UFO? Throw in Greg Howe and Tony MacAlpine while we're at it. Howe has a nice jazz feel and MacAlpine is a brilliant keyboardist as well. I believe he played on a Vinnie Moore album too. Oh yeah, he was a member of Steve Vai's band on one of the G3 tours... not sure which one.
Yeah, Yngwie's pick man is the busiest guy on the crew! You just gotta shake your head and chuckle at YJM's antics!
